Got the tail end of a spiral cut ham with bone in the freezer.

I HATE split pea soup.

What else can I do with it?

White beans.  Throw in some bacon.

Then fry some bacon, crumble it up, add it to the cornmeal mix, and make cornbread in the skillet used to fry the bacon.

Crock pot on low heat + ham bone + brown beans with enough water to cover it all.  24 hours later make yourself a pan of corn bread and take some BEAN-O.

I like black eyed peas. How much water in the crock pot and for how long?
I think the ham bone is too much for the mini schnauzer, but I know she would give it a go!

Put the skillet with the bacon grease in the oven to preheat it.  Then, dump the hot grease into the mix, give it another stir, dump it all in the skillet, them put it in the oven.

Best cornbread EVER!

(If you use really salty bacon, cut back on the salt added to the beans.  You can always add more salt, but you can't take it out.)

Some Italian meat sauce recipes call for pork bones - you could probably finagle the ham bone into that as a substitute (I guess it's the same thing with a bit of flavor).

Ham and beans!  White beans are my favorite but pintos are good too.  Mine seem to take three days to get done but it is worth it.  Throw in some chunks of ham on day three.

Pretty much it, though you might want to shred some carrots, the last time she made it she added tomatoes, not traditional but it added a bit of zest to it.
