My fancy, top of the line Kenmore blew 2 fuggin water pumps and flooded my first floor twice. Then there was a leak that couldn't be fixed so I said F it and got an LG. So far so good.

Do not buy a front loader!
Old school top loader will be cheaper do larger loads and not develop the mildew smell. I bought the little Mrs a front loader because she loved the color, can't wait til this pos dies so we can get a new one STINK! |

One from craigslist for cheap. I brought a washer and dryer both whirlpool for 150 and my wife has used them for 3yrs now. Yes they are the older type but she wouldnt let me spend the money for anything nicer . since we brought a new set when we first got together that lasted maybe 2yrs.ok so it was the washer not the dryer that died. The dryer lasted another 2. I even brought another set as a back up, the same make and model from a mortgage foreclosure that is waiting just in case. I paid 75 for that set.just because someone says 200 a set doesn't mean they wont take less. And the money you save can go towards another gun.lol

And don't fall for those front loader high efficiency adds either. Those things suck ass and smell bad. I can use my home made laundry detergent in my Speed Queen and it only costs about $1.75 for a 5 gallon bucket full.

Whirlpool is by far the best selling brand, reliable but easy to get parts for if needed. I was in the appliance business for a very long time, a standard washer is a lot better than these fancy low water models, and they are reasonably priced. These new low water use models don't clean nearly as well and are mechanically more complex, which is why they are so expensive, I wouldn't waste my money on one of those expensive fancy ones.

We have a Whirlpool Cabrio that's been flawless for a few years now, and it holds way more stuff than any other top-loader I've ever seen. Not for the electronics-averse, though.
It's a HE model, which I didn't really want, to be honest. Water is cheap here. I just wanted the super capacity. |

It's more about reading directions. I was skeptical at first too. But I read the whole set of directions for my front loading HE, and it washes like a motherfucker. Anything but LG!!!!!!!!! They suck obamas nut sack! Ours wasn't out of warranty when the dryer tub broke, but by the time LG got around to getting a repair person out (6 Weeks Later!, it was.

Granted the old school washers without program le features last longer, I don't disagree but it's a convenance argument. Truth be told my set is the best set I've every used including fairly top of the line top loaders. Perhaps your experiance with FL isn't comprehensive of the options out there? |

Whirlpool and Kenmore is not what it once was. Most are direct drive.
I ended up with my moms washer and dryer that was bought when I was a freshman in high school. The washer finally crapped out. I bought a GE and its been fine for almost two years. The water bill has gone down enough to pay for the washer and half the dryer so far. I did get a 3 year extended warranty for a total of 5 or 6 years on both. It was 75 bucks on special at Lowes. |

I buy the cheapest toploaders you can get on sale at Home Depot or Lowes. My last Kenmore cost me 150 and lasted me 5 years.

Whirlpool GOLD, pay a little extra, but the parts/quality are TOP notch. Plus they are very efficient.
I have the Duet, Washer and Dryer combo, been perfect for the past 2 years.
