Yeah one of the PJ's came to my command at the Air Force call. Wish I'd known he was going to be there, I would have snuck in or something, I'd liked to have met him.

I saw that documentary too. PJ's don't get the credit and glory they deserve, but I don't think they mind too much.

Believe it or not, my brother was part of Indoc class 03 001. They started out with 104 guys, and 24 made it through 8 hellish weeks to take the final evaluation. My brother was one of 4 that passed on the first attempt. Pretty cool, eh? I believe a few more passed in repeat evals, maybe 9 more.

He is not yet a PJ, but a PJ trainee. He goes through 18-24 months (not sure) of training before he can actually be called a PJ.

We are all extremely proud of him.

My cousin's husband was a PJ for 17 years before getting out to go to medical school.  He's a general practicioner now.

The drop-out rate is about 80% in the program.  It is easily one of the hardest training programs of any in the military.  PJ's go to the US Army Special Forces medical specialist training program, then do rotations in trauma ER's and on ambulances to get real world trauma training.  I believe the rotations occur in inner city environments to take advantage of the unfortunate incidence of gunshot wounds in those locations.

My cousin's husband described it as being a very exciting life with plenty of parachuting, diving, mountain climbing, etc.   Swimming is heavily emphasized in the program with similar exercises and training as is received by SEALs, but with less emphasis on covert infiltration.
