I'd say Wilson did the most fundamental damage to the country by knocking some vital protections out of the Constitution. Roosevelt is a close second with his sweeping statist legislation, though.

It's just been on my mind lately. I have been arguing with a friend about fascism and I noted that the most fascistic presidents in the US were products of the left. IMHO, both Roosevelts, Wilson and Obama top the list.

FDR provoked japan with sanctions so they would attack first and sway the public to let him into the war in europe that he desperately wanted, not to mention passed the NFA, confiscated gold, sedition acts, etc

FDR did a plethora of fascistic things, and for the purposes of this poll I'd put him in a tie with Wilson; but US sanctions on Japan had more to do with Japan's actions in China and the public outrage over them than FDR trying to goad the Japanese into attacking us so he could go to war. The guy was a full blown schmuck, but he didn't make Japan attack us by putting onerous and unjust sanctions on them while they were peacefully minding their own business and having haiku contests.
