Ok, she is a friend of mine, but at a party the wife and I were throwing Fri. night the subject of guns came up (as it always does in my house [:)]) and people started talking about gun control.

My friend then said that I really changed her mind about guns, even though we have never talked about it directly.  She said just knowing the kind of guy I am and what kind of guns I have (they sometimes come out for show and tell) made her realize that gun owners can be normal, polite people.

Even though we never discuss guns directly she now has something positive to associate with guns.  With most people who don't like guns it is based on a "feeling" and not thinking.  If we can change that feeling to a positive one we can start turning people around.

That is one of the reasons that I don't hide the fact that I am a gun owner.  Every one of my friends and the people I work with (school teacher, no less) know that I have guns and what kind.  I've changed other people's minds this way, just by being positive, normal, and relatively non confrontational about the issue.

Now I just need to throw larger parties. [:)]

I would have to agree with you about the profanity.  One of the posters on this board was taking the gun-control side and I stopped reading when he started using profanity.  Incidentally other posters properly shot down his statements.
