Yup. This actually is a real problem. Happens several times locally.

The motivations differ. Some boredom. Some just like the thrill of the lights and sirens. Some are just pyros. Smallest amount do it for a financial reason.

Fire service fire setters are a danger and a blight on the firefighting profession.

100 are arrested every year. 1,100,000 firefighters are active in the USA as of 2011. Throw the book at him in my opinion.

The thin red line has its uses and place to be used, but this is not one of them.

It happened out west a number of years ago in a little VFD that had a contract with BLM for wild fires.

Regular jobs were slow, so a couple guys lit a fire.

This happened in my home town. My Dad and son saw the fire. I remember when they built the complex. The pain remains for a lot of people. Joe Wambaugh wrote a book about him. Horrifying read.
