In 1997, only 13 percent or $250 million came from the federal government. The FAQ states that since 1995...Congress has cut CPB funding by $100 million or almost half."

Withdrawing government support will not get rid of PBS. Each year, more and more support of PBS comes from donations.

Yes, I like NPR.  Yes I listen to it.  No I dont give them money. I can stand a little criticism from public broadcasting, even the most obnoxious late night NPR programs, like this one where they inverview an artist onstage for an hour in front of an audience, and no matter what, the subject of the Bush Administration (boo!  Hiss!) comes up.  

The guest on that show can be the world's foremost expert on macaroni mosaics, and the interviewer always brings up Bush and what the artist with his vast knowledge of history, politics, and international relations thinks about Bush....to the inevitiable catcalls from the audience from the mere mention of the President's name.  Irritating, sure, but I can take a little empty criticism.

NPR around here is the only station that plays decent classical anymore. I also like some of their shows even if they are pinkos. Namely the car guys, but there are others.

Unlike a lot of folks here, I see liberals as a natural expression of idiocy in nature, so long as we can keep them out of our guns and our foreign policy, I've realy no issue against them. As a matter of fact listening to them is like taking the young-uns to the zoo to watch the monkies bang eachother and throw fecal matter, it helps our youth gain an appriciation of what stupidity is.

NPR has outlived it's usefulness. It was SUPPOSED to give rural folks some type of radio reception for news, WX, etc.

I don't think that most of us really have a problem with PBS and NPR being liberal, what many of us have a problem with is that liberal propaganda is being subsidized against our will with tax money.  Notice there aren't politically-conservative (or even neutral) TV stations being funded by the federal government?  

I don't watch that much public television, but I don't see how you can label it "liberal" ...what kind of "liberal propoganda" do you see on PBS?

Given the 100's of billions of dollars our government wastes every year, I'm not concerned with the 250 million they slide to PBS so children have a place to watch non-violent and educational television.  IMO Seasame Street alone is worth $250 million.  That's a whopping $1 (or less) from every American citizen ...big f'ing deal.

But maybe you're right.  Maybe that money would be better spent buying $600 screwdrivers(that I can buy at Home Depot for a couple bucks) ...or researching the flow rate of ketchup and/or catsup ...or how many holes a block of cheese needs to have to be considered "swiss" ...or given out as welfare and foodstamps to crack whores and other parasites who feed on this country from the inside.  Or maybe we can send that $250 million to a third world country as an "aid package" so they can feed and harbor terrorist who would be happy to see all of us dead.  Yeah, those would [b]definitely[/b] be better ways to spend that money.

And, if it comes down to 600 dollar hammers to build a ballistic defense shield, (you know, the part of the constitution that says something about providing for the common defense) or funding for PBS, NPR, the NEA etc.., my tax dollars are authorized to go to the common defense.

I have a cousin that works at the PBS TV station, and one of his benefits is free tuition at the university for his children, Cerebus, will your children get a free Top 10 collage education?

My friend, I am only 40 years old, but my family heated with wood for most of my childhood, and the first 8 or 9 years of my marriage I did too, because that's all I could afford, so I cut my own wood.
I will never forget when my wife and I both were working full time and had enough money to heat with gas, so please don't make the assumption that 1.00 is no big f'ing deal.

The PBS system seems to work ok, send a donation and they won't play commercials.
It should though, be 100% self supporting.[:D]
