Just curious, My old gas grill has seen better days and it's time to replace it. I don't mind a gas grill but the food sure tastes better on charcoal.
Sooooo, how about your opinions on either gas or charcoal and please give some recommendations for good grills of either kind.
I would like to keep a gas grill price under or around $300 or so.

Charcoal tastes so much better... gas is more convenient... Go with charcoal, even though it will be more expensive in the long run. And use Kingsford charcoal!

At least all the ones on the Kingsford commercials. [:D]

I agree though...charcoal does taste better...I think. It could be the subliminal messages in those commercials though. Personally I use gas because its much easier and I am a lazy bastard.

I would like both. GAs is so conveneit, Turn it on light and your good to go. Its nice just for cook hamburgers chicken and hotdogs in the summer when you dont want to heat up the house. You right the food is so much better on charcoal. I have a gas grill but would love a charcoal grill.

ROTFLMAO !!! Good Idea, only problem is....I'm sure it would stink, give off noxious fumes and make the food taste like shit. [:D]

Is there any practical reason why you couldn't occasionally use charcoal in a propane grill? Seems like you could remove the lava rocks, put some tinfoil over the burner to protect it, and then cover it with a layer of your favorite charcoal.

I voted for charcoal, food cooked on it does taste much better than food cooked over gas.

You need to add a third category to your poll becouse, well, real men cook on WOOD[:D]

That's the grill I have. Smoked our Thanksgiving turkey on it.  On the weekend in the summer, we cook or smoke stuff all the time.

Gotta have charcoal...Not gas.

I BBQ 6 out of the 7 days of the week and have been doing so for over 20 years.
I used to use Kingsford and wore out more grills than I can remember using charcoal.
IMO, while the taste is much better using charcoal, I was going broke buying it...
I switched to gas about 9 years ago and two years ago I plumbed my house natural gas on my back deck to the grill.
For my usage gas is the only economical way to go, I still think charcoal is better tasting - but there are tricks you can use with a gas grill that enhance the flavor.
I used to be a diehard charcoal guy, but gas works for me!

Didn't some company come out with a Charcoal grill that used Propane to light the charcoal?  Seems like a quicker way to get the coals hot.
