Looking at a 4 door. Lot of highway driving mixed with pipeline work. Rock to mudholes and everything in between.
Package to look at?
Buy the cheap one and fix it up?
Real world mileage?
Wait a couple of years and get the diesel?

Package to look at? Rubicon ( and yes I've owned one)
Buy the cheap one and fix it up? Your going to spend money regardless
Real world mileage?
Wait a couple of years and get the diesel? No

I have a rubicon.

3 inch lift
35 inch tires
4.10 gearing (factory)
Hard and soft tops

Get anywhere from 14-16 mpg.

Diesel would be nice but I wouldn't wait.

I like my Rubicon.  If I wasn't going to wheel it a lot, i'd probably go Sport or Sahara.

I'm getting 15 mpg around town and not much better on the interstate with 35's and 3.73's.

07 JK 4 Door with manual.

3 inch lift 305 75/16's (34 inch tire).  I get 17 mpg.  The soft top sucks on the highway.  Get a hardtop and buy a soft top for summer.  The hard top is over 2k to replace and an aftermarket soft top is under $500.  I love my jeep!  I don't rock crawl it, so the manual is fine.  I do most of my off road in the dessert, and it is set up for that.

I like the idea of a base model because there is so much aftermarket for JK's I don't really see what the Rubicon offers that you won't replace anyway.

Also, black jeeps look like shit with brush scratches.  I have to plasti dip my jeep once or twice a year.  Get a white jeep.
