That is technically true. But then, there's this:

From the Kleck study:
Armed Resistance to Crime: The Prevalence and Nature of Self-Defense with a Gun

Since as many as 400,000 people a year use guns in situations where the defenders claim that they "almost certainly" saved a life by doing so, this result cannot be dismissed as trivial. If even one-tenth of these people are accurate in their stated perceptions, the number of lives saved by victim use of guns would still exceed the total number of lives taken with guns. It is not possible to know how many lives are actually saved this way, for the simple reason that no one can be certain how crime incidents would have turned out had the participants acted differently than they actually did. But surely this is too serious a matter to simply assume that practically everyone who says he believes he saved a life by using a gun was wrong.

A favorite tactic of anti-gunners is to spout off about the death and destruction caused by criminal use of guns while completely ignoring the admittedly harder to find information about the use of guns in self-defense. You cannot analyze gun control policy correctly without considering both statistics.

The anti-gunners never mention that a lot of those people either deserved or wanted to die. A significant percentage of them died at the hands of fellow gang members, some were killed by law enforcement people, and some were killed by their potential victims. Many of them were suicides. In a "gun-free" world (as if there could be such a place), you would see a similar number of deaths due to knifings, bludgeonings, poisoning and various other gruesome means.

Quoted:
i see in a few articles, at different times, and places on the net that about 30 thousand people die yearly in the states due to firearm violence, i know that this information is more than likely provided by the brady bunch, and has to be way overestimated, so, what is the actual numbers of people killed by firearms yearly.......

Most gun violence in the US today is the result of poor punctuation.[;)]

It seems we have more police officers charged with murder than concealed weapons permit holders here (AZ).

You are also more likely to die accidently fromfood poisoning, than accidently from a gun.

Ted Kennedy has killed more people with his car than I have with my guns.

damn, I can't say that my guns never killed anyone...

One of my M1s was manufactured in April '44, and was used in the European theatre.  No telling if she felled any krauts.

My other M1 was made in June '45, and probably saw action in Korea.  No telling how many communists it's killed.

My Lee Enfield was made in May '44, so it may have killed a few krauts, too, however, given it's excellent condition, and matching (original) parts, it may not have ever been used in the field...

Hard tellin, huh guys?

So have my guns killed anyone?  Maybe, but they were all bad.  (a la Schwarzenegger in True Lies)

Leading causes of death
CDC 2000

The 15 leading causes of death in 2000 accounted for 83.7 percent of all deaths in the United States.
Causes of death are ranked according to number of deaths.

1) Diseases of heart (heart disease)
2) Malignant neoplasms (cancer)
3) Cerebrovascular diseases (stroke)
4) Chronic lower respiratory disease
5) Accidents (unintentional injuries)
6) Diabetes mellitus (diabetes)
7) Influenza and pneumonia
8) Alzheimer’s disease
9) Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis (kidney disease)
10) Septicemia
11) Intentional self-harm (suicide)
12) Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis
13) Essential (primary) hypertension and hypertensive renal disease (hypertension)
14) Assault (homicide)
15) Pneumonitis due to solids and liquids

Breaking down the firearms deaths:
Firearm mortality
In 2000 a total of 28,663 persons died from firearm injuries in the United States.
This number was 0.7 percent lower than the 28,874 deaths in 1999.

Sucicide: 57.9% = 16596 people
Homicide: 37.7% = 10806 people
Firearms accidents: 2.7 = 774 people
Firearm injuries of undetermined intent: 0.8 = 229 people
Legal intervention: 0.9 = 258 worthless piles of shit

When the fucksticks at HCI start spouting their bullshit of how many gun deaths there are by "children and adults" remember that those stats are worthless since the CDC calls 15-19 year olds "children".

10806, that's still a lot of people, but far from the stats that HCI is going to be spouting.
And remember, more than half come from people checking out on their own.

I think that each and every anti-gun outfit in the USA would be serving the public better if they would shift their focus from banning guns to helping to directly prevent suicide.
