Comfortably Numb

Hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?

Come on, now.
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.

Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can't explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

Ok.
Just a little pinprick. [ping]
There'll be no more --Aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.

Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working. Good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on it's time to go.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

Pink Floyd RULES!!!

BTW - You guys should listen to and read the lyrics to "The Fletcher Memorial Home" from "The Final Cut" LP.  Excellent stuff.  Actually, the vast majority of "The Final Cut" is terribly underrated and very political.  I think many around here would enjoy it.

Thanks for the link Hun!  That is an exceptionally well done Flash site.

Comfortably Numb's second guitar solo (the one at the end of the song) kicks ass.  One of the all time best.

... Oh man, I love that stuff EricTheHun. I drove to L.A. from Mesa, AZ with my new (at the time) bride to see The Wall.

... Seen 'em three times together and twice after Roger and David divorced.

Actually, this time I was simply out of my head with a sinus cold that has been plaguing me for a week now!

I was up at 4:51 this morning, besotted with nothing more than a half bottle of Nyquil!

And I thought you guys needed some class entertainment!

I was right, wasn't I?

"HEY YOU!!! KEEP YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF MY DESERT!!!"    (What'd he say?)   BOOM

Brezhnev took Afghanistan/
Begin took Beirut/
Galtieri took the Union Jack/
And maggie over lunch one day/
took a cruiser with all hands/
apparently to make him give it back

The gunners dream

Floating down through the clouds
Memories come rushing up to meet me now
In the space between the heavens
And the corner of some foreign field
I had a dream
I had a dream
Goodbye Max goodbye Ma
After the service when you're walking slowly to the car
And the silver in her hair shines in the cold November air
You hear the tolling bell and touch the silk in your lapel
And as the tear drops rise to meet the comfort of the band
You take her frail hand and hold on to the dream

A place to stay enough to eat
Somewhere old heroes shuffle safely down the street
When you can speak out loud about your doubts and fears
And what's more no one ever disappears
You never hear their standard issue kicking in your door
You can relax on both sides of the tracks
And maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote control
And everyone has recourse to the law
And no-one kills the children anymore
And no-one kills the children anymore

Night after night going round and round my brain
His dream is driving me insane
In the corner of some foreign field the gunner sleeps tonight
What's done is done
We cannot just write off this final scene
Take heed of hid dream
Take heed

llanero,

You just posted what is quite possibly my favorite song from The Final Cut.  Between The Gunners Dream, The Fletcher Memorial Home, Two Suns In The Sunste, & The Final Cut, I have a very difficult time actually naming a "favorite".

I just had to take the CD off the shelf and pop it in the stereo as I was composing this post.  Absolutely amazing album.  The guitar solos throughout are some of the absolute best that Gilmour has done.  It's truly unfortunate that the riff between Waters and Gilmour forged the breakup.

the fletcher memorial home

take all your overgrown infants away somewhere

and build them a home a little place of their own
the fletcher memorial
home for incurable tyrants and kings

and they can appear to themselves every day
on closed circuit t.v.
to make sure they're still real
it's the only connection they feel
"ladies and gentlemen, please welcome reagan and haig
mr. begin and friend mrs. thatcher and paisley
mr. brezhnev and party
the ghost of mccarthy
the memories of nixon
and now adding colour a group of anonymous latin
american meat packing glitterati"

did they expect us to treat them with any respect

they can polish their medals and sharpen their
smiles, and amuse themselves playing games for a while
boom boom, bang bang, lie down you're dead

safe in the permanent gaze of a cold glass eye
with their favourite toys
they'll be good girls and boys
in for colonial
wasters of life and limb

is everyone in?
are you having a nice time?
now the final solution can be applied

Man, I love the final cut!  I get chills just reading the lyrics.

Comfortably numb rocks too- that was one of the first solo's I ever learned note for note.

At one time, I could play the entire wall from start to finish without missing a note.  Of course that was back before I had kids and stuff, and could sit in the barracks and play for hours and hours a day.

I should have stuck to it, cause there was a time when I could hang with the best, I'm still better than a lot of players, but not like I used to be.

Red-leg--The Final Cut hasn't left the cd player in my bedroom for around  a month now.  That  and a Tool bootleg is all I've listened to in quite some time...

And for all of you with Tinfoil Hats.....

ILLUMINATI
-- To the tune of "Eleanor Rigby"
  11-07-88
Steve Jackson, Joe Vail, Creede Lambard

Illuminati...
They put a thing made of tinfoil on top of my door...
What is it for?
Illuminati...
Shooting a ray at my cornflakes to make them turn green...
What does it mean?
The Illuminati... They're watching me, I know.
The Illuminati... They're everywhere I go.

Illuminati...
Doing unspeakable things in the night to a cow...
Where are they now?
Illuminati...
Sent an impostor in place of the Popsicle man...
What is their plan?
The Illuminati... They're watching me, I know.
The Illuminati... They're everywhere I go.

Illuminati...
They cancelled Star Trek, The Fonz, and My Mother, the Car...
Are they bizarre?
You can't escape them;
Even if you take a plane to Nepal or Peru...
They'll be there, too...
The Illuminati... They're watching me, I know.
The Illuminati... They're everywhere I go.

I know that they know all about me...
They know that I know all about them...

Illuminati...
Hide their assassins' instructions in newspaper text...
Who will be next?
They're all around us...
Underline every third word in the Times and you'll see...
How can it be?
The Illuminati... They're watching me, I know.
The Illuminati... They're everywhere I go.

They're in the attic and the cellar...
Bigger than Hunt or Rockefeller...

Illuminati...
Go through my garbage and count all the pop bottles there...
Why do they care?
They're out to get me...
They're fluoridating my water from their UFO...
What do they know?
The Illuminati... They're everywhere, I see.
The Illuminati... And no one knows but me.

Well as a matter of fact yuo just jogged my memory! My first roomate in Korea used to drink ALL the time. Since you weren't supposed to drink 8 hours prior to duty he kept a 1/2 bottle of Nyquill on top of the fridge next to the door incase one of his NCOs wanted him to drive! [%|]

The Final Cut & the Wall IMO are two of the greatest albums ever. Too bad Waters went off the deep end and the group broke up.
