Come fly away in my beautiful balloon, by the 5th dimension.
No, seriously, even though I'm a Deadhead, and really don't care for Zep, I gotta say Stairway to Heavan.

MANY by the VERY GREATEST female voice of ALL time - Karen Carpenter.

How I miss her and all the pleasure she brought to so many of us.  What a waste losing her at the peak of such a fabulous career.  O f all the entrtainers who have left us, she is the one that I mourn most of all

They had a "vote" back in '90 (I think), and "Yesterday" by The Beatles won.  Great song.

It's not the greatest, but the Eagles "Get Over It" is getting alot of airplay by me. It seems so appropriate these days.

Tonight the greatest song in the world is Joe Walsh's "I Like Big Tit's".Who knows what tomorrow might bring.

A friend in my office was getting married this summer, and she wanted my opinion on which song to play at her reception;
Both were "At Last", but one was by Etta and the other by Celine Dion.  The Dion version was jazzy and about 15% faster.

At my wedding, I played Sinatra (Moon River and Summer Wind).  I asked her if she wanted what's current and what's classy.  I told her that going with the original, and somewhat forgotten Etta James version was the way to go.

After her wedding, she thanked me to no end.  Etta had the voice.  IIRC, Katie Segal (Married With Children) sang backup for Etta at one time.

Check out the version by Eva Cassidy.  It'll blow Dion away, and is considered by many better than the original version by James.

Anything made in the last 10 years can't possibly be "the greatest" song ever.  It first has to stand the test of time.

Having said that, there is no single "greatest" song, much like there's no single greatest band (contrary to my opinion posted elsewhere).  It's all a matter of personal preference.

You've got to be kidding---though I will admit the melody itself is very stirring----something about the words though [;D]

Nope, I'll go w/The Star Spangled Banner.  It's the only song I know that can bring tears to my eyes.

As somebody who used to have to play both Stairway to Heaven (Hairway to Steven) and Freebird (Beefturd)in bands years ago so much and so often that we used to make up bizarre lyrics and names for them just to keep ourselves from retching[%|]   , I think both of these tunes should be banned and practitioners thereof publicly horsewhipped....[soapbox][spank]

Same goes for anything by Peter Frampton.[:(!]

Although anything by  Pink Floyd would qualify, and as much as "Paradise by the Dashboard lights" by Meatloaf tempts, the best song of all times has to be... drum roll....

Once again, check out the version done by Eva Cassidy.  Available on 'Live at Blues Alley'.  This was the last song she sang in public. Died a month later of melanoma, age 33.
