Some of you may be aware of the problems brought up by threefiftynone regarding a close friend of his and BIA.
If you haven't read it, please see this link: Jeremy Johnson To make a long story short, this guy is in trouble. He has not asked for anything and has even refused help. I don't think he should have to tough it out and neither does threefiftynone. He's sold his guns and ammo and is trying to get enough together to buy the tools to support his family. It's the season to be giving and to care for those less fortunate as ourselves, so let's make a big impact on the guy's life and end 2002 with a bang! To answer a few obvious questions: 1- His address? Jeremy Johnson 173 Farmbrook Road Mt Airy, NC 27030 (336) 786-1202 2- Does he know about this? Not really. He gave permission to share his story so that local friends would be aware of this. He is NOT expecting anything and doesn't have access to a PC to tell us not to help. [=)] 3- Wont his insurance help? His home insurance will cover repairs to the garage and some of the cost of items lost, but the amount will not be full. It wont cover lost time and it wont make medical bills go away. 4- What kind of guy is he? If you haven't picked up on this yet, when asked about accepting help from anyone, he responded, "there must be people who need help more than we do." 5- Paypal? He doesn't have a PC and unless someone wishes to collect the funds on his behalf (RBAD??? [=)]) we need to send checks or MOs to him and his family. Let's do what we can here and try to make his life better. If you can't spare $$$ write him a letter and wish him the best. Give his family your prayers and let them know they are not alone in this. I'll ask threefiftynone to also print this topic out for him when a number of well wishes have made it in. [=)] |

Check outgoing tomorrow. Unless there is a paypal prior to noon.
I'm all over this one. That was me not long ago. Where's RBAD when I finally need him?????
Money'll be outbound as soon as I can get to an ATM tomorrow.

I just love Bank of America!
You type in a name and address, a dollar amount, two mouse clicks, and you can go back to your beer! |
Now let's wait! We'd have to check his politics first! Was he ever mean to kids? What if he ever used a nick we don't like? Does he tip his UPS driver?
Bah, he's probably a member of the wrong church, or has pics of titties on his computers. And just how many posts did he have here anyway, since this is now a factor? |
Check's going out tomorrow. Wish it could be more. The holidays cost so damn much.
Money orders are probably preferable to checks. There's less chance he'll refuse to cash a MO, since the money is already out of the sender's hands.

I'll put a check in the mail tomorrow. What about chipping in to buy the guy a new AR? Does he had kids that need presents?
GB, thanks, as I had missed the original thread.
I'll get a donation out tomorrow.. -Larry. |
Check in tomorrow's mail.
Guys, I read this, and it just really hit hard. I have had life so easy... I have never really had to deal with any real hardship.... I really had to help out here. Just a little from each of us could really make a big difference in this family's life. Thanks GB. |

Quoted: Lets worry about his family's needs and if a rifle is on his agenda a year from now, then we did our part! View Quote You guys are the best! Thank you all for helping my friend. As far as the rifle goes, he can buy his Bushy back from me at the price I paid for it. And he gets to shoot it whenever he wants in the meantime. Juan, I did exactly as you told me NOT to, and sent you money for team membership today. I will put $60 more in Jeremy's hands, too. I'm still asking for prayers for the Bailey family. |
I'll do what I can, and get a money order out to him come the early part of next week. Prayers cost me nothing - and Jeremy and his family are in them.
This is exaclty the reason why this board is like family to me. |

Checks in the mail, along with a Christmas card. If anyone was ever in need of assistance, it would be him. Open up the wallets!!!!!
Another bump.
If you can do nothing else, please send Gary(daddy with kidney failure), Mary( distraught mama), Jeremy (son, my good friend, and man of the family), and Jarret (burn victim) a card or letter letting them know we are thinking of them. IM me if you need a post paid envelope. Thanks, Tim Goatboy, thank you again. |

Threefiftynone,
Make sure Mr. Johnson accepts the gifts. I would be very disheartened if he refuses the gifts. It sounds like he's a very proud person who do not normally like help. |

View Quote John, Yes, sir, The whole Johnson family is very proud, but they are at the point that they will accept assistance. They need help. I asked Jeremy for permission before I posted the first time, to tell the story (the one in GB's link). The second time, it took 2 days to get ahold of Jeremy to ask permission to call and talk to Goatboy and Medcop. GB emailed me offering help. He gave me his direct phone # to call. I called. That was one of the best conversations I have ever had with someone I had never met. I ran off at the mouth, to be sure. I needed to tell my friend's story, in its entirety. GB was nothing but ears (thank you again) GB is truly a giving person. I asked about sending cash for a "Team Membership" GB was good enough to tell me that he didn't want my money for team membership. "Give the money to the Johnson's" were Goatboy's words. That was all I needed to hear to send cash for a team membership. This is a family I want to be a part of. I will be proud to be a part of "The Team"! If you are hesitant to send a contribution, please send a card or letter. Just let them know that they are in our thoughts (and prayers). Thanks, Tim |

As soon as the wife gets back with the checkbook, there will be a check in the mail.

Tim,
To quote one of my son's favorite "Super Hero Larry Boy"...Help is on the way! I hope that you and your family have a very Merry Christmas![<|:d>] It is truly better to give than to receive![0:)] BigDozer66 |

As I get older it becomes more and more apparent that it truly is a blessing to be able to give to those in need.
It's also a blessing to be able to freely associate with the people here on AR15.com |
$$$ sent! I put it in a card with a note scribbled in it (I can't write for shit). It'll go out tomorrow should get to NC by Monday.
threefiftynone, Thank God for friends like you. I will help out with a contribution as soon as I can, in about a week. In the mean time I will pray for the two families and of course for you as well.

Christmas card on the way, with a little something inside [;)]

Tim,
I sent a MO to Jeremy today. Also my prayers and thoughts to the Bailey family. Vic |

Damn. On top of everything else going on, to lose the tools of the trade is a terrible blow. I too work with my hands for a living, so I understand how bad that is.
Funds sent. Wish I could have sent more, but I know every bit counts. |

I am the wife of Threefiftynone. I wanted to thank each and everyone one of you for the overwhelming show of concern for Jeremy. This past summer my sister and I dedcided that even though Jeremy has a family we wanted to make him feel a part of our family. My sister and I made up some "adoption papers" and held a special dinner welcoming Jeremy into our family. Jeremy now participates in our family events and travels as if he was one of our own by blood. Jeremy is a very humble and hard working young man who gave up going to college to help support his family.
I can not tell how it has touched me for a group of people who do not know us personally to show so much concern. I wanted to thank all of you. Jeremy was starting to receive your gifts by Friday and was truely speechless and overwhelmed by the generosity. MY prayers are being answered one by one. Once again, thank you. As a side note, I have just signed up with AR15.com as Marcy_Mousegun (aka wife of threefiftynone). Once again, thank you. P.S. I promise to quit giving TFO a hard time over time "Wasted" at ARFCOM.... [:)] |
Thanks GB, Tim and others for the heads up. Prayers are sent along with a little cash.

Finally got the check and letter in the mail today.
Thanks Mods for keeping this tacked, It's also heartwarming (and humbling) to find as I get older that "Giving" really is better than "Receiving" God bless all that have responded - with prayers, letters and or donations. |
Talk about irony, I finally had a bit of time to catch up on the site happenings and started with the team section and came across the post on what you best like about this place. I just posted a note that it was the old fashioned help and the genuine caring and concern people here exemplify.
That's what makes this group stand out from all others. Damned if it ain't so. I'm not going to fight any crowds for another box of Christmas cards but I'll find one to print off on the web here. Then, head for the post office to get it and the check in the mail. Merry Christmas |

I personally want to thank each and every one of you who have given from the heart to Jeremy.
I am just returning home from my "Family Christmas" event. Jeremy was the only person there who is not blood relation, if that tells anything about our relationship. While there, I pulled up this thread and showed it to him. He could not beleive the response. He asked If I would make sure everyone got properly thanked for their generosity. I assured him that I would. I offered to let him post under my name. He said he would rather sit down by himself and write a "Thank You" letter to everyone. I will post it here, when I get it from him. He will send a personal note to everyone, but some of you guys gave no name or return address. Jeremy told me he had gotten several envelopes with just a note, and some cash. No name, address... nothing. You people have the kind of class this world needs more of. I thank you again, Tim |
TFO,
Sometimes, giving to someone who could use a helping hand is thanks enough. I was one of those with no name/no address. I like to give, I'm just not always comfortable with the attention that it brings in return. All I'll say is that I was the one who wrote the comment about 'a kindly elf' in the Xmas card. |
a little after-christmas gift sent.
god bless j. and his family. and thank you, 35none and wife for helping take care of these folks! |
