My Captains wife passed away, and I'm tasked with backhoe duty. The problem is the "cemetery" is 175 years old, and the majority of the graves aren't marked. There's a good chance I'll dig up someone else.
This should be fun. 
UPDATE: It went well, and no bodies were uncovered.

He built the pine box himself as well. They said that they poke the bones back down the prairie dog holes when they bring them up. |

The Texas Ranger Museum in Waco was expanding several years ago and while excavating along the bank of the Brazos river started turning up bones. They finally determined that it had been an unofficial cemetery for slaves and indigents from the mid 1800's. |

I talked with a grave digger one time. As this towns 350+ years old this was not an uncommon problem.
He told me that due to the acidic soil you usually didn't find much. Maybe a coffin handle , etc. He said he just made a small hole in the bottom of the grave and put whatever he found in that. Always wondered though if you saw a gold ring just laying there would you rebury it? |

My church is ~125 years old. They had a company come out and xray the ground they weren't sure about. They have a sign up about not doing any burials without calling the church office first. |

I dug up part of a dead indian once while installing a power line, the tribe was monitoring the dig and shut us down for a couple days while they sifted the spoils for more bones. When we got the ok to continue, they had us dig a little deeper, and put the bones in the bottom. The power line runs right over him...
