From the article:
What was highly unusual in this case, however, was that an eye was taken out and never found at the scene.

WTF?

I don't work w/ nail guns much but don't they have a safety on them that only allows them to fire when the "barrel" is depressed onto the surface you're nailing?

I know a contractor who was in a tight space under a staircase using a framing nailer. He had both arms fully extended over his head and when fired the first nail, his nailer recoiled, back into the wall, and bounced back twice in rapid succession. He was holding the trigger and nailed his hand into the stud twice!

Yes, but depending on how old it is, some of our old ones the safety was poorly designed, and we would lock it back temporarily, for certain nailing operations.

JUST like any other gun , the OPERATOR is the best/worst safety device.

^^ Agreed. My old hitachi shoots fast as hell and usually if I'm holding the trigger and bump the side it'll perfectly toe nail.

Not to mention some actually disengage the safety on them. I never understood those who wedge up the guard on skil saws. The extra half a sec for the guard to start rolling back is worth it versus someone not paying attention and getting that blade stuck in them.
