This time the person lost was my father.
Dad died last evening at 8:48PM in his beloved South Alabama home surrounded by children and grandchildren.

Dad walked through the rubble that was Hiroshima two weeks after that blast and through Nagasaki six weeks after that nuclear bomb was dropped.  No hero - just another who went to and won a war and then came back and worked to preserve the peace.  Dad would have been 83 on December 20.

Cecil Wilson Boothe - USN 1944-1945.

My sympathy, Tom.  May he rest in peace.

We are losing these brave men and women, who sacrificed so much, at a rapid pace.  Make it a point to thank a WWII veteran (or any veteran for that matter) before it is too late.

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked'st on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

Cecil Wilson Boothe, Departing!

All the best to you and your family during this time.  So nice to hear a little more about another vet and what his presence overseas during time of war and after meant to foster peace on earth.

Don't be too sad.  He's gone to a place that is so much better than the world he just left that he may be feeling sorry for YOU that you're stuck down here.   He's already reunited with friends and family that got there first, some a long time ago.
It's a happy time, up there, anyway.

We all have a joyful reunion coming to us at the end of our travels in this world.
