Lets suppose that each military soldier had to supply their own weapons (excluding the big stuff tanks, jets, SAMS, etc.) for a war/conflict.  What would you bring?  Also, to make this more interesting lets do this in the past and future.

World War II (German Front)

Thompson
1911
Baby Browning (backup)

Future War

HK 93
Sig 226 with 20 rounders
S&W 60 Snub

Lets hear your weapons!

One 45 caliber automatic,
two boxes of ammunition
four day concentrated rations…
Antibiotics
morphine
vitamin pills
pep pills
tranquilizer pills
One issue of prophylactics
3 lipsticks
3 pair of Nylons

And maybe something to read.

Morgan, this "future war" you describe.....Will this involve armed conflict against any of the Undead and/or Bigfoot(s)?

I'm really not sure how to answer this without additional information.

World War II

- Thompson in left hand
- BAR in right hand
- Garand strapped to back
- 1911 in holster
- Kabar between teeth
- No food. I will eat the flesh of my defeated foe.

Future War

- Thompson (Just to confuse the heck out of the enemy)
- 1911 (To confuse enemy further)
- Two Kabars (To climb up 90-degree surfaces, probably outside of a spaceship)
- Four rocket launchers (Strapped to arms and legs)
- SuperNuclear grenade that only I was trusted with, to incinerate the world at my jurisdiction.
- No food in space. I will eat the flesh of my defeated foe!

WWII/Korea:
Subgun: Thompson
Battle Rifle: Garand
Sidearm: 1911

Subgun: Swedish K
Battle Rifle: M14 or FAL
Sidearm: 1911

Either:

The best camouflage I can lay my hands on.
The best body armor/flak jacket I can lay my hands on.
The best entrenching tool/shovel I can lay my hands on.

The idea here is that they won't intentionally shoot you if they can't FIND you.

WWII:
M1911A1 with some feed ramp and ejector port tuning for absolute assured reliability.
Thompson SMG, almost any variant,(for ammo commonality with the .45)
At least 200 rounds in .45 for both guns,
mostly loaded in lots of spare mags including drums for the Thompson.
M1 Garand for long range work

Yeah, it'd be a heavy gun load for one man but I'd rather be a little tired and well armed than travel lightly and not have the weapons I need.

Consultation with experienced battle veterans of the time would give me further guidance as to what's actually useful and what's not.

I wouldn't bother with the niceties like books, candy, lipstick, etc. because I'm not chasing tail and with a gun, I can get what I want anyway.  When an armed man asks if you can spare some food, the answer is YES!  Especially if he's trying to liberate your country!

Future:

Go with the classics!  M1911A1, Thompson, Garand!
Freak EVERYBODY out!

But seriously, I WOULD choose an M1911A1, and I would choose both short and long range rifles.  An M16 (possibly an SMG) and an HK 91 or something like that.

Wasn't in any conflicts, but my Uncle Sam "borrowed me" an M-60 for 2.5 years. I also had an M-16 assigned to me and a 90mm recoilless rifle for 1 year.

As to long guns and handguns. Only pilots, officers, tank crews etc. get issued handguns, and they don't generally get long guns. If I had a choise between a long gun/handgun combo, and long gun and more ammo instead of a hand gun, Praise the Lord and pass the ammo.

Hmmm, so many tough choices.

WW2:
M-1 Garand Tanker Model with a half dozen clips for long shots.
M-3A1 Grease Gun with 6 30rd mags for down and dirty work at short ranges.
1911 for last ditch NY reloads.

Current/Future War:

M-14 Scout Rifle and as many mags as I could easily carry for long range stuff...or...
M-4 Carbine with lots of mags and M-193 ammo, if I was going to be shooting at ranges less than 150yards.
Lightweight 1911 Commander with a few 8rd mags for my handgun.

Can't forget the E-tool and a good Kabar knife too.

M1 Garand w/1911

Present
M4 w/Sig 239

Wouldn't want an M14 or FAL too far away.
