What do you all think? Seems like they are overstepping.
The board at Carrillo Ranch, a homeowners association in Chandler, has ruled that residents cannot smoke marijuana — medical or otherwise — in their backyards, front yards and patios View Quote http://www.azcentral.com/community/chandler/articles/20140115medical-marijuana-ban-home-yards.html |

I was under the impression that medical marijuana was illegal and therefor not prescribed in AZ, so it's largely a moot point.

So in a natural evolution of the war on drugs are we going to see HOA s field Tac Teams to storm trooper around the development now? Will they go all out complete with state of the art tactical gear and MRAPs or will they cheap shit it and just be a couple of fat dudes in old fatigues and a dilapdated Subaru Outback?

So if the HOA collects fines from pot smokers, does that mean they are profiting from illegal activity? |

I know a whole shit ton of people (many on this very board) who bitch mightlily about HOAs but don't show up to vote or even run for a slot on the board themselves. Kinda like people who bitch about the government at all levels who don't vote or run themselves. Largely just windbags. Last I checked, HOA agreements were voluntary. |

They'd have better luck enforcing a ban on crumpling your toilet paper.

Only before agreeing to abide by the covenants, before buying the property. If HOA covenants and bylaws were optional, there would be zero complaints, except about the butt hurt neighbors trying push home owners around without a leg to stand on. |

I believe that when people buy homes in communities that have HOAs they agreed to be bound by the rules of the HOA. People should carry out their duties and obligations under the contracts they enter. I personally have never owned a home in a neighborhood with a HOA, but that's because I cannot stand them.

HOA's are bullshit and I would never join one Dont have too. They join you How's that? I don't belong to one now and none are in my area. The house is paid for so if some third party thinks they can come in and tell me I'm paying HOA fees they have another thing coming! |

absurd? yes
overstepping? yes illegal? i dont know, depends on the state. but's an HOA, you dont like it, move. i dont understand why anyone would want to live anywhere that had an HOA, regardless of their stance on this subject. |

We actually approved MM via referendum, the legislature overturned it,
then we approved it again with another referendum several years later. One legislator (John Kavanagh) was trying to put a repeal of MM on the ballot in 2014, then finally realized that this would be a gift to the Democrats and shelved it. |

Just another reason I will NEVER own a home in a neighborhood with a HOA.
I have no patience for politics especially in my own home. |
