No different in my opinion to sky diving, bungee jumping or human wing suit flying.

It was a calculated risk, coupled with faith in a mechanical object performing as designed and a little luck.

I bet the thrill / elation for those standing there was off the charts when they realized they survived.

It has been many years ago, but the last time I was on your side of the pond I got to drive from Trondheim to Stockholm via Lillihammer and Oslo, and I didn't see much "tank country". Between the steep terrain and heavy forests in the highlands, and the wet, marshy ground riddled with ponds, lakes and streams in the lowlands it would seem like a tankers nightmare to me.

The south of Sweden is fairly open, especially Scania.

In other parts of the country tanks would be used to cut off certain choke points, primarily between lakes that restrict enemy movement. The Finns would operate in pretty much the same way.
