My wife retired from a utility company and has always said meters can sometimes not read properly.
She would recommend you call the utility company and tell them about this. They will come out and check your meter. |

We had a water heater fill up with "sediment" and it raised the electric about 45% in 1 year.
Drained that shit out, bill went back to "normal". |

ours has been high as well, i attributed it to the fucking insane cold temps we've had here this winter. we've had days and days of it being less than 32 and that shit doesnt happen here much. fucking george bush's fault.

People all over the country are learning about the accuracy of the smart metering system. Some people's bills skyrocketed and others went down. The new digital meters are insanely accurate and are going to pay for themselves literally in no time. My guess is that your old meter wasn't accurate. |

Probably due to the colder temps we are having in PA this year compared to last year.
While your heat is oil if you have forced air you still have a motor running the fan to circulate the air and to run the pump for the oil to feed into the furnace. Also your electric hot water heater is probably running more to keep that water hot. I know my furnace is running a whole lot more in these colder temperatures and I keep the house at 66 during the day. |

The "Smart Meters" are more sensitive to very low draw, such as LED "power" indicators and such. Get enough of them and they start adding up. You may have for example, an electric sprinkler timer that was never appearing before. Now it might be. |

I have heard that people switching to the new smart meters will often see their electric bills rise.
Supposedly, the old meters can get wear and tear on the mechanics, and will eventually start to turn slower than they should be. So they under-state how many KW you're using and your electric bill is lower. Then, when you get a new meter that's running 100%, the electric bill shoots up. I'm not sure if it would make a 30% difference, but I have read about complaints that electric bills increase with new meters. |

PA also allowed utility rates to increase by around 30% within the last 2 years or so. Maybe 3 or 4 years ago.
