WW2 isn't really even taught in high school anymore. It's usually like one day in US history class.

I graduated HS just over 10 years ago and we werent expected to remember dates and we didnt study the actual wars, only the causes and affects.
In my AP American History class we spent an entire semester on the causes of the civil war....and maybe 2 days on the war itself. If nothing else, I think its disrespectful to the veterans. |

Depends on the teacher, of course, but at least that gives the students a taste of what History is, as a discipline. Especially appropriate for an AP level class. |

My daughter is a sophomore in HIGHSCHOOL and she has a pretty good history teacher. He is Annapolis grad and a Marine pilot. I have seen that guy open her eyes to history. Public school. |

Quoted: Shit started happening right about the time when HISTORY became SOCIAL STUDIES. View Quote I can remember, my teacher was a fairly young guy who really knew his shit. He made no bones about the fact that the Soviets were the bad guys, that Communism was a terrible system of government, and he predicted that if we managed to avoid a war, the Soviet Union would eventually collapse economically. (This was in '82/'83.) |

This is an example of why I am scared to death that our citizens will lose all of their freedoms.
When people like this vote without understanding history or knowing something about current affairs and cause and effect; when they just vote for the one the TV says is "the nice guy", they will enslave us all. |

For years History, Geography and Civics have not been part of the Progressive agenda. You can make slaves out of people who know the past.

We had a thread here about a year ago and it was one of those, "Text/ask your wife this question..."
And it was to name one American aircraft from WW2. Something like 80% of ARFwives answered the B-52. |

Sad. I'm only 5yrs removed from HS, but thankfully we had a pretty good US History class all-around. Even the idiots from our class could've done better than those girls.
My AP class was of course more in-depth & we had 12 guys + 12 girls in the class, so I know those 12 ladies could've answered all of the questions without hesitation. We we spent about a month on each WW, and we even did a re-enactment of Aaron Burr vs Alexander Hamilton with water balloons during class at some point because we were special |

They don't need to worry their pretty little heads with that stuff.

My wife would have aced all of those questions, and then some
...but then, she's a professional historian |

View Quote We had already picked sides, but clearly didn't enter until the attack. Obviously our Lend-Lease policies supported only one side of the conflict, but realistically the other side couldn't do anything about it but suck on it. Japan jumped the shark when they attacked us. They had no path forward to win, except hoping we would give up. |

Beyond his personal experiences, he was a very intelligent and engaging teacher. We need more like him. |

This is why women never should have been allowed to vote...nor hold political office.

This is particularly sad because, the more you know about WWII, the more youu'll understand about why the world is the way it is today.
It literally shaped our modern world. |
