What would you put in a backpack to carry hunting/hiking in this situation:

THE RULES:
1. All items must be readily available at Wal-Mart
2. Everything must fit into one backpack.
3. Weight is a big issue. You'll have to pack it for up to 48 hours.
4. The terrain is woodlands. Guns, ammo, food/water and clothing are not part of your backpack load. Only mention them if you want to. It's not a TEOTWAWKI thing.

I'll start off with five items. Add whatever you'd pick...

1. First-aid kit
2. Flashlight
3. Cigarette lighters
4. Camp Axe (small hatchet)
5. Cord/Twine

Have fun. Thanks in advance for your input. I've got some decisions to make.

1GUNRUNNER, I don't shop at Wally World anymore. Haven't for a few years now. That is why checked.

All - Good evening, the Soprano's starts now.

TC6969: Cigarette lighter flints turn to mush? That's something I didn't know. Good info.

Defcon: I'll have to consider my position on Tabasco sauce. Maybe it should be my backup firestarter. Perhaps emergency burritos are in order as well.

Byte- Good to hear from you again. I should have thought of the laptop, so that I can stay connected to AR-15 while lost somewhere in Lumpkin County... or somewhere else in the third world.

Everybody: On the subject of knives- I figured that there are a couple of ways to go about it, and would like your input. Pocketknife? Skinner? Fillet? Multitool-type? All of the above?

I'm okay with a sturdy locking pocket knife when I am backpacking and weight is a concern.

Fillets are limited in usefulness.

However, when travelling by car or to varied places, multi-tools are handy handfulls of mediocrity.

edited for spelling.

If lighter flints turned to mush when they got wet, then you could render a lighter useless just by going swimming with it in your pocket.

Try it...buy a disposable bic, leave it in your sink full of water all night, then once it's dry you will be able to spark it right up.

Lighters ARE very suseptible to moisture though.  If they get even the tiniest bit wet, you will not be able to light them.  And it will not dry very quickly if the humidity is 100% as in if it's raining.
