That's old and outdated. Used to be you had to go to the sheriff and get a permit to purchase then go buy your gun. PITA.
That changed about 5+ years ago. |

That changed in either 2007 or 8, I can't remember. No permits now.

It was a Jim Crow law from way back. At first, the only important question on the form was "race." A certain MO gun rights group was pushing for repeal of the "Permit to Acquire a Concealable Firearm" or PTA, and long story short, a legislator from St. Louis claimed that the law was never racist, and it was never used to deny rights to anybody based on race. Then a black man testified about being denied a PTA in St. Louis due to his race. The bill passed, and the PTA was repealed.
That was several years ago. 2007 or 2008 I think. |

Glad to hear it was repealed. I've been looking, and there are some crazy permit restrictions on some states...well, used to be I guess, since that site is outdated. I was looking to try and find stuff on my state, some sites say you don't need a CCW to carry, some say you do. I think I'll keep mine, just so I can carry in other states too.

It was a huge pain in the ass, and the counties didn't know their own laws.
It was enough to cause me to switch residency. |

Man, I hated that routine. A long time ago I turned in my application for a Permit To Purchase to a deputy. He said "3 or 4 days, maybe". Then he noticed I worked at the same cop shop where I was buying the pistola........... "Say, do you have any S&W (whatever) in stock?" "Yes. I'll put your name on one." Had my Permit To Purchase as fast as that mofo could print it up.  |

The best story ever was from my home county. Sheriff didn't think anyone but cops should be allowed to have anything but a .22 handgun. One of his requirements for a permit from his county for a centerfire handgun was you provide a letter from your spouse saying it was ok for you to buy one. I kid you not.

They got SD wrong on it as well.
CCW eliminates 2 day waiting period and NICS. Otherwise, 2 day waiting period for handguns. |

That website is outdated by 5 or 6 years.
