I had a Romanian G built on a nodak spud receiver then put more traditional wood on it acquired via trading with site members.
It's not quite WOLVERINES like a proper egyptian steyr AK would be.

I had a WASR that shot great so I sent an Egyptian wood set to Sinatra (team member) for refinishing. Turn out great.

Regretting I sold it but it was the right call at the time

I don't have one but this is what I would get. A factory ak for around $500.  Those days were long gone until these showed up.

That would be my first choice. Get it while it's hot though. I'm sure they will be gone soon.

I personally would get an Arsenal with a milled receiver or some other brand with a milled receiver to get the Type 3 vibe. I'd also get US wood furniture and dye/finish it to look like Russian Red. I might even get the rifle deep blued to better resemble the original AK's.

The end result would be something like this.

ETA: If you just want something to go bang, I'd just get a WASR 10. Most AK guys make fun of them, but they do go bang. Hell, the one my dad bought when I was little only groups slightly worse than my M1 Garand.

I have a Lancaster (save it, I know) that came with russian red furniture.  Gorgeous.  Can't see it too well with the flash, but any excuse for a pic.

I got a 1960 Milled Polish AK47 from Century Arms International that was of pretty shocking quality considering CAI's reputation.  I've heard the same thing from others who bought the 1960 Milled version (as opposed the WASR).  The only thing I did was buy new wood furniture from Ironwood Designs and then sand and stain accordingly.

I have a Romanian SAR-1 (not WASR) that has been of excellent service through thousands of rounds. The fit and finish isn't outstanding, but it puts rounds on target and it keeps ticking no matter what. In other words, it's an AK.

mak 90. Love mine. The thumb hole stock is gay though, and hard to replace I've been told. The rifle itself is nice all together. All matching parts on the original reciever.

^This is a good option.

I got one from these guys a year or so back.

The one on top is my Egyptian Maadi. The bottom one is my Polish one from RRCFirearms.

Please excuse the Russian pistol grip on the Maadi. It has been replaced with the correct grip.

Norinco or Polytech 56s

Or a Bulgarian milled rifle.

The above are "classics"

If looking for a stamped variant look for a MAK90 or a SAR 1.  Both are legit semi-auto copies of military rifles.

I seriously regret selling my SAR-1 way back when for ~$300. I desperately want to replace it with another AKM but I can't stomach the prices they command now. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet when I get my taxes back but goddamn. I'll have to go for a PAP since those are the only reasonably priced anymore.

I'm so stupid.

Well mine wasnt that much, but they aren't cheap that's for sure.  If you want a true Type IIi, its either a full auto, a polytechnic legend, or an arsenal sam7 classic.

IMHO....a really good value, is the old Romanian SAR-1 in 7.62x39.  Just don't act too excited when you tender your offer to buy.
