First look at the "Appleseed 10/22" Ruger put out at SHOT.
Basically a 10/22 set up for CMP-style smallbore shooting. Modular stock from the Ruger American, built in aperture sights (plus rail), stainless, extended mag release, threaded for flash hider or suppressor. My big question -- did they put a target hammer and sear in there? If so, it will be awesome to have a 10/22 ready to go off the shelf. The target hammer isn't 100% mandatory but it sure does make a significant difference. Despite having plenty of .22s in the safe, Kind of Want! |

Not a big fan of the stock but the rest of the rifle looks good.

I was just thinking about selling my other 10/22s for the LTR Now I can get this one |

I wonder if Ruger has figured out what's the proper length on a threaded .22 yet?
|
|
|
Aperture sights are a big win. There a bunch of bolt guns I would be more likely to buy if the had aperture sights. I will probably get one of these instead of buying tech sights for my marlin 760
|
|
At least they got shed of that shitty concave butt plate stock.
|
|
It looks amazing. Too bad it's considered an Assault Weapon in NY. FUAC

This is good, good news.
Big for Appleseed. Which by the way, if you've never shot an Appleseed- you're missing out.

Appleseed isn't a 'target' activity. It's basic marksmanship training. Why would they put a target hammer and sear into such a rifle?
|

|
I remember the contest to vote on which new model ruger was gonna do.
wasn't this appleseed one came up with by an arfcommer? |
|
Yea, it looks like a nice piece... tho it'd have to be sold without the threaded barrel in NY.

Means that the 10/22 might have a liveable trigger pull out of the box. IOW, you will not have to buy a Timney or Kidd, or at least not right away. |

That looks an awful lot like the thread protector/flash hider that Ruger used on the SR22....

View Quote It's not about "target", it's about a good trigger instead of some grabby, sticky, grabby pile of crap. Every rifle needs a good crisp trigger, not the usual trash that is just about standard on modern guns. It's a fundamental design feature that is neglected. |

Does a better trigger make shooting better easier? Of course. There are no downsides to a "target" trigger in Appleseed.

All you really need for a decent trigger on the 10/22 is something like a Volquartsen hammer. I put one in my "Appleseed" rifle (an older 10/22 Deluxe with Tech Sights and USGI sling) and it made a world of difference. Much crisper and more predictable break. It's a $30 part and takes 15 minutes to swap in. |
|
If it was offered with a walnut stock and blue steel I would be on it like a tick on a June bug.
They need to supply it with a canvas web sling case that unzips into a shooting mat |

I remember when they had the vote. This was one of my favorite concepts.

I didn't say there was a downside. Just that it's not a prerequisite to participating in, and getting something good out of, Appleseed. |

I'll take one. Then throw a Kidd trigger in it and put my Sparrow on.
|
|
I would buy that rifle in a second.
That would save me so much time and money not having to mod a 10/22 aftermarket it's not even funny. |

View Quote I am have never been to an Appleseed since they always fill slots before I know if my schedule will work. I am however, hoping the weather cooperates this year and lets me finish widening my backstop so I can host an event. I have contacted the local coordinators and they want room for 30 participants. That means I need about 100' of berm. I'm close and was hoping to have it done last spring, it was just too wet. Looking forward to this year hopefully. |

I put tech sights on my 10/22 for my someday appleseed shoot. Good job Ruger.
Only complaint is that I hate the Mini 14 birdcage. I wish they'd just shitcan it already. |

Definitely presents a predicament for me haha. I was going to buy the takedown tactical or whatever it's called with the threaded barrel. But this thing really pretty sweet. Hmm...
Also, in before someone says "buy both" |
