I've lived in the same rural place for over 50 years and had countless dogs and cats show up. I never turned one away. In all these years, I've only paid for one dog, because my wife wanted a Golden Retriever. All the rest have been rescues. I never went to a shelter and picked one up, so for the purpose of this thread, post either pets you got from shelters or pets that picked you.
Here's Tindy. He showed up here about 4 years ago, and he's my best buddy.    Here is Tindy with his cat, Kirby. Kirby also found us.  |

 Part Blue Heeler part Coon Hound. Fantastic dog. Little fart would kill someone or something to protect me. |

My 14 year old boy wants a husky, so I'm going to check on a rescue for him this year.

This is Tag, we picked him up on 12/21/13.
Just read this: A man wrote a letter to a small hotel in a midwest town he planned to visit on his vacation. He wrote: I would very much like to bring my dog with me. He is well-groomed and very well behaved. Would you be willing to permit me to keep him in my room with me at night?" An immediate reply came from the hotel owner, who wrote: SIR: "I've been operating this hotel for many years. In all that time, I've never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes, silverware or pictures off the walls. I've never had to evict a dog in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly. And I've never had a dog run out on a hotel bill. Yes, indeed, "Your dog is welcome at my hotel, and, if your dog will vouch for you, you're welcome to stay here, too." |

Had many, but our current is our Catahoula. Wife saved him and his brother about an hour before they were to be put down at the pound when they were about three months old. Within an hour of her bringing them home on a Friday afternoon, this one starting crapping and puking all over the back yard. Parvo! She got him to the vet in the morning along with the other one. They both were in the hospital for nearly 2 weeks when the other dog died. Needless to say with all the money this dog ended up costing he became our dog. Very smart critter and very protective, but the weirdest dog we have ever had. Petrofied of any loud bang and does not travel well at all. We have to give him some 'doggie downers" pretty often. We have cats also and Catahoulas are not suppose to like cats, but he loves them.

This is Bree, we rescued her about two years ago. She was chained to a tree 24/7, have heart worms so bad she almost died from the treatment and was way under weight. Now she is healthy, chunky and the most loving grateful dog I've ever had. when she goes, my house will be in a world of hurt,

squeezer was dropped off in front of a pet shop on a cold, Feb morning 15 years ago. Lucky he didn't freeze to death.
This girl was sitting on the double yellow line. I scooped her up on my motorcycle and put her in my pocket. Sure, I could have threw her in a local lake but she counts as a rescue; no way she would have made the rest of the way without being smushed.

A friend went into a nursing home with Alzheimer's' disease. We took her 11 year old dog. The previous owner has since died, but Riley comes to work with me every day (I own a pawnshop). We've had her about three years.

Rescued this thing and paid for a hysterectomy which really helped reduce the stray cat population in the neighborhood. She still gets laid pretty much nightly.

This is Shadow, some kind of herding dog mix. She had a fractured front leg, lacerated muzzle and abrasions on her belly. Unspayed, untrained but a lovely smart little girl dog. She looks and acts a lot better these days. Oh yeah, don't rescue a herding dog with a broken leg unless you are prepared for a rodeo. 3 new casts and $600 in additional vet bills before we were through. |

Wife owns a dog grooming shop and she always rescuing animals. This was Kato. He had a cyst the size of a softball growing out of his chest and numerous other health problems. I spent $1000 dollars at the vet. A lady we never met herd about it and ended up paying for everything. He stayed with us for a year before we adopted him out. |

My wife fosters quite a few dogs, and has for years, from a rescue in Denver. We have some winners, and we've had some destructive pups, but they all have been adopted out.
That is her passion. |

This is Puddin. She has been with us for 7 years after our renter left her and 9 puppies after we evicted them.
This is Little Bit. She has been with us for 12 years after her owners decided they didn't want her. 
This is Gus. He showed up last summer with a crushed back leg which the vet had to amputate. 
This is Smokey. She showed up in our driveway as a kitten. We have had her for 4 years. 
We also raised 9 orphaned goat kids one year, but I don't have any pictures on the laptop right now. |

My dog Osa.
She was found in the desert outside of Tucson during the winter. She had just given birth to eleven pups, when she was found ten of the pup had frozen to death in the snow. She had no collar or tags. The guys on quads picked her and her surviving pup up and gave them to the Desert Labrador Retrieval Rescue. Her pup was weaned and immediately adopted. Osa wasn't so lucky, she was passed over several times before I showed up. I went to her foster home in Tucson were she was swimming in the pool. When I walked into the back yard she climbed out of the pool, ran across the back yard, and jumped into my arms - it was a done deal.....

Here's some of our non-canine rescues. The pictures provide all that's needed. No wonder I can't get ahead.
 These are some of the more drastic transformation rescues. We currently now have four dogs, two cats and one horse that are rescues. The mustang named Riddick is enjoying life on a mustang farm, we adopted him out.

I love these guys. Both rescues that no one else wanted. They like hanging out in the shop with me.
Chloe is older and has lost her sight. It's a shame because she was very observant. She would watch people's expressions and conversations. She has slowed down in the last couple of years. We keep her as active as we can.  " />
Hank is a happy dope. He was very reserved and introverted when we got him. His personality has blossomed. He's a great dog, but he had some issues we had to learn to deal with.  " />
They are best buds. Chloe relies on Hank for cues since she's lost her sight, almost like a seeing eye dog. Hank is protective of her. They cost very little. I wouldn't trade them for anything. |

Found on the side of the road 3 1/2 years ago. He is now one of the best parts of our lives. A crazy cross between a Corgi that knew how to jump a fence and an Australian Sheppard that was ready to receive.

Hound dog is best dog.
This is my rescued redbone coonhound. She came fully housebroken and trained in basic commands. She is currently in "school" learning how to track raccoons.

heres mine. the one in front is Bosco (named after a actor from third watch) he's kinda a asshole, but I love him. the other is Dillion, hes very loyal and very eager to please people, listenes really well. I got him from my EX;s sister. they "didnt want him anymore" then proceed to get another dog a few weeks later. that pisses me off.
