I've never went that far, but I did mount a scope on a .22lr with both rings behind the adjustment turrets, and it held zero for the couple of years I left it like that.

Holy cow, you put a whole foot of rail on and can only fit one ring?

Also, should I place it in front of the turrets or behind? does that matter for stability?

For a 22lr with a horrible push bar for a trigger, a loose scope may improve accuracy
Seriously, it's made to be simple rugged survival gun, You will loose utility and wont be happy with the accuracy regardless if the scope stabilizes, FWIW, you could probably get a compact scope with one ring to perform ok, If you can't dot i's with the 22lr quickly give it a 410 blast

Depends on recoil and scope weight.
Also, one ring might actually hold better if there are some bad alignment issues between two rings. |

The "trigger" isn't bad. Though I use it like a real trigger. I place my finger on the ridge area and squeeze. Really isn't so bad. Especially for what it is. |

I'd be leery of only one ring on the scope, though. If it got caughg or impacted on the unsupported end of the scope, it could damage the tube, the mount, or both. |

I have seen some custom Mauser that had one ring on the scope, and the other ring (sculpted half-ring) soldered to the obj bell
