I was browsing through houses for sale and spotted a piece of furniture that I really liked. It's the big red piece on the left wall.

Is that considered a pantry?

I'd call it a hutch.

It's not a chest of drawers. They are not as big and usually goes in bedrooms.

Thats what I thought as well, but every time I see a hutch, it is small and usually have glass windows and shelves.  While this piece is all cabinets and drawers.

Hutch or sideboard.  But a sideboard usually has a counter area.

Who had the bright idea to put the microwave at knee level? Let's make you bend over to get anything out... That should ensure you always spill something.

Glass windows and shelves are usually found on China Cabinets. A hutch can have shelves, or cabinets.

It has the look of a piece that was taken from a general store, and re purposed, but I suspect it's a contemporary piece. A replica.

Depending on your style/decor you might also consider a Japanese mizuya.

The bottom looks like a very standard buffet/hutch/china cabinet base. The top is just a windowless top.

I got an Army counseling statement because I wasn't ready for inspection. It said the contents of my "chester joors" weren't laid out properly. I amost wrote a rebuttal....but common sense told me to let that one go.

There is very little uniformity between what something actually is, and what they call it.

Google image search "baker's rack" and look at all the different shit that turns up as a result.

There's sideboards and hutches and shelving units etc.

So basically, just shop around till you find the piece you like. Names are worthless.

Odd.  All the old-time pie safes I ever saw had tin sheeting with decorative designs punched into the sheeting and no glass.  A hutch with glass doors were just hutches with glass doors to display the China or glassware without it getting dusty.

Is that a pull out breadboard on the far left of the piece? May give some clues as to what it is.
