I vote Boston's self titled debut, or GunsnRoses Appetite as the greatest debut albums ever.  If you listen to the albums, nearly every song on there was a hit as a single.
So what do you think?

Those are both great! Though the G'NR isn't really self-titled.

I'd add Yes's first album.. Yes.

RUSH is a great first album too.

Dammit... "Self titled" means only the band name.

Appetite For Destruction was the name of the album. It wasn't titled simply "Guns and Roses".

Well I was only asking for debut albums, self titled will really narrow the field.

I don't have that great of a music knowledge, and am no where near saying that this is the "greatest," but I liked just about every track on Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park.  I know they are probably not a GD approved band, and I haven't liked a ton of their stuff since then, but that one was great IMO.

The first Foreigner album was pretty hot. Night Moves is sort of a debut album, since it wasn't The Silver Bullet Band before that.

ETA: How could I leave it off? Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols.

One of the greatest 90's releases......Uncle Tupelo's "No Depression" set the scene for a decade of Alt country goodness...too bad J Cash never covered any Uncle Tupelo, that would have been epic.

Probably.  Only thing that comes close for me is VH1. Nevemind is an honourable mention, but they released "bleach" the EP first

I forgot about the Pistols too.  I don't know that it matters however a lot of the tracks had been either bootlegged or released as singles.

For that matter, didn't GnR have a cassette EP floating around with stuff that eventually appeared on Lies?

Nirvana had an album before Nevermind.

The Beastie Boys had a great debut album too.
