3-4 mile stalk over a couple of hours ended with yours truly missing the 50m shot. I have bought shame on my grand dad's Remington and my self.

Meh, shit happens.

I have on occasion  watched a deer keep on walking while I patiently waited for him to fall over, only to realize I missed!

Probably a tiny branch in the way you didn't see....

my question is how in the hell do you stalk a deer for 3-4 miles in MS?

that isn't exactly Wyoming.

If it's any consolation I bet Gramps goofed up a hunt or tw as well.

It happens. No worries.

All you can do is try again, just being outdoors is a win.
You could be in your parents house all day playing video games.

I stalked one for a mile once ,and in my final maneuvering to get around a mesquite tree that was between me and him, I was watching him and not looking and I tripped over an unseen rock and fell into a patch of cactus.

Hahah I'm 30. So no basement dwelling ....spooked him up on the way in, spent the next two hours taking the long way around to cut him off. I lucked out he was still in the middle of wood in between the bean fields. I missed because I rushed.

Don't stress it man. I rushed the shot on the only deer I've seen all season, a 6 point at 60 yards with my rifle. No more shooting from the bench for me!

If you had to drag it 3 -4 miles, good miss.

That's 'cause your Dad and Granddad, and by extension, the Remington, shot deer at 50 YARDS.
Your Euroweenie meter-talk has caused a rift in the gun's karma field.
Drink a Pabst, smoke an El Producto after striking the match on your teeth, slick a little Vitalis in your hair, call a waitress "Darlin'", and maybe, just maybe, your next shot will be true.

Maybe I'm jaded, but i generally won't walk over about 1000 yards to hunt a deer. Up until this year they they were like rats in a NY slum.
