This Happened to a piece of my brass we found at the end of the class...Our Hypothesis is this. My brass flew forward of the firing line, and on the way to the ground it appears someone shot it in Mid-Air. There were no discharges at the ground so we're nearly 100% sure that it wasn't shot while on the ground. I know it was my brass due to the black marking mid case (this is how i mark my brass).

WOW! Would think you would know if you had an out of battery detonation, so your idea seems to be the most likely.

You might get one more reload out of that casing, but I wouldn't chance it any more than that.

It was a rifle shot in high wind. Maybe eight or even ten guys in the world could have made that shot.

It's possible for brass to deflect forward, esp if it pings off the noggin of the operator to your right...
