Snowmobile or snowmachine????

....that is the question.

I keep hearing the term "snow machine" nowadays as opposed to the normal term "snowmobile". Is there a difference between the two? Did something change? Was a memo not issued?

A snow machine sounds like something that might produce and/or render inoperative......snow.

I gots to know.

I used to hear snow machine back when I was a little kid in the 60s-70s. We called them snowmobiles when I was a teenager though.

Snow machines make snow for skiing, snowmobiles have skis and a track and you ride them.

The first time I heard snowmachine used otherwise was when we started hearing all about Todd Palin.

Snowmachine is AK vernacular, and we ran them more there than anywhere else in this country, that makes it proper in my book.
Anyone that went out and f'd shit up on the reg called them sleds.
Dealing with non-907s I usually call them snowmobiles, they can't wrap their head around machine and evidently think I'm talkling about jumping spines and runnin 80mph thru 3' of fresh powder on a $10.00 plastic Costco when I call them sleds.
I miss my sled.

I'll save you burning up google, yes some resorts use snow-makers to make snow (ice) and open early or build park terrain.
