She must have been 19. Had a communication class where they watched star wars (she missed the class) and had an assignment on the film.
When i say she knows nothing about them, i mean nothing. Never heard of the force, darth vader, or light sabers. She asked if luke skywalker was in star trek.... I did not even know this level of ignorance was possible seeing how entrenched both franchises are in pop culture. I asked her how many times she had seen twilight, and she said she had read the books over 50 times and the flicks more then that...... |

I've watched Star Trek growing up and all the movies but I have never seen any of the Star Wars movies
|
|
I am currently bringing my wife up to speed on TNG and Counselor Troi's role
|
|
I know about Star Wars and Star Trek characters from pop culture, but I've never watched them either.
That genre doesn't appeal to me. |

watching Wrath of Kahn with my daughters right now
they now know how Klingons became übermensch
|

My 25 year old gf is the same way. I told her she is going to watch the Star Wars movies with me one day.

I'm 33 and I've never seen Star Trek. Seems kind of gay to me. I liked the first three Star Wars though.

I'm 34 and I have never seen Star Wars or Star Treck. I get what happens though...some rebel cause is fighting some dudes who are like the government. Turns out the dude is his kid or some baby-daddy drama, someone loses a hand at some point, someone makes out with their hot sister, a bounty hunter shows up at some point and midgets in ewok suits run around with spears...or something.
They save the universe or some shit, da end. |

bullshit, nobody reads a book 50 times
(excluding kids books to kids) |

The real question has she ever saw firefly. View Quote No. She pretty much knows nothing about anything. She grew up in a moderate sized city as well. I am shocked how many people these days have never seen the pop culture classics like the alien(s), the thing, Willow, terminator, etc. They usually give some faggy answer like " i dont watch much tv". Yet will spent all day on their phone, know ever line to gay movies like twilight or some justin beiber song. |

I work with young Military "kids", there are plenty of them that have never seen movies from either the Star Wars or Star Trek world.
A few of them know quotes from either movie, but they don't know the context or the scene. Then there's the exception. There is one really good looking redhead who's in her early 20's who is a really big Star Wars fan. She named her son Luke Skywalker. One day I made the comment about the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor, one of the young guys looked at me and said "I thought the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor". The LCDR that works in the office looked up from his desk and said "Forget about it, he's on a roll". I asked the kid if he had ever seen Animal House, he said no, so I told him to watch it. He came in the next day and told me that was a really funny movie. I gave him a list, Blazing Saddles, Airplane, Christmas Vacation, Dr. Strangelove, Groundhog Day, Slap Shot, The Producers, Wayne's World, The Blues Brothers, Duck Soup, Office Space, Caddyshack, The Jerk, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. He told me he tried to watch Dr. Strangelove and didn't see what was so funny about a nuclear war. |

I worked with a woman who's father was stationed (Naval Intelligence) in the Aleutians and in Europe.
It was pre internet era and she had never seen Bugs Bunny, Scooby Doo, Sesame St. Adam 12 etc. We were a super productive team because we literally had nothing to talk about. |

Many of today's yout's are totally into pop culture and have no grasp of history, whether fantasy or real. Ignorant she is and no doubt an Obama voter.

My Dad is into Star Trek because it was popular during the time he was in school. I'm into Star Wars because I was a kid when Return of the Jedi came out and bought all the toys to play with. All these new younger kids don't care about either for the most part, unless their parents went to the trouble of educating them. But yeah all the chicks I've been dating are several years younger than me and none know about Star Trek or Star Wars or any good classic movie for that matter, all they really know is Harry Potter and Twilight, their parents failed them...

Not everybody is a nerd. View Quote Yes but everyone knows who elvis was even if they didnt listen to his music. For an american to not know anything about starwars means going far out of your way to remain ignorant. Hell pop references to it are made constantly in the media. Shows like family guy have done entire episodes as an homage to that franchise. |
|
I've never seen Star Trek and only seen Episode 1 of star wars Don't feel I missed much
|
|
I saw the first Star Wars at the theatre and fell asleep.
I have never seen any of the others, not into science fiction, I guess I'll never be a scientologist, lol. |

I would hate to be that ignorant of what are very imbedded cultural referents in American society.
|
|
Always thought Star Wars was kind of stupid.
I've watched Star Trek off and on over the years and will admit that I miss it now that most of the networks have stopped airing the episodes. Never really got much into TNG but DS9 and Enterprise were pretty good. |
|
Invite her over for a StarWars movie eating marathon.
Sounds fun. |
|
99% of the time, bringing up Star Wars or Star Trek with a random girl gets you instant and irrevocable "I will never, ever sleep with this guy" status in her eyes.
Exceptions might be if you are at ComicCon or some such. |

I run into people like this from time to time. I've never talked to anybody who doesn't know about Star Wars or Star Trek, although I've no doubt there's plenty of 'em out there. Nowadays the culture is so fragmented, and people so caught up in their own semi-charmed lives, they end up being dumber than dirt as far as the world swirling around them. Why do you think this country has such a large population of low information voters? Maybe it's because I have such a wide variety of interests and have a working knowledge of just about everything, all I can do is just shake my head at the thought of going through life this way.

Can't say I ever met a woman that has seen or cared to see those movies.

I'm 34, and I'm amazed at the lack of older pop history knowledge among today's 20-somethings. Sure, shows like The Honeymooners or movies like Casablanca were all well before my time too, but I've seen them or know about them, and did even when I was in my 20s too. Not so with today's millennials. Ask them about a movie or TV show made before 1980, and you're greeted with a blank stare. |
