I've been using Peachtree Accounting for 15 years. It does everything you need. Great service too.
Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, etc... etc... Edit: For personal home budgeting... Try Quick Books |

I guess that I should have said this would be for home use. You made me realize that I had missed a very important detail to my post.
It sounds to me that you have worked with some good software.

It really depends on how complex your finances are. Pen and paper will work with 65% of the people out there. Excel will a good bunch of the rest. Only a few really need software. I have rental properties, 3 investment accounts, some bonds and use 3 credit cards (paid off every month) and I use an Excel spreadsheet I made. |

Column for date, trans type, amounts, etc and then use a pivot table to summarize the data.

The only decent thing about quicken type apps is they will download your account data and parse it, but you still have to go in and polish things up. |
