If you like smoke, it's gonna be hard to beat the Lagavulin.
Sure, you can always find MORE smoke (Laphroaig, Ardbeg), but you then risk overdoing it. Neither of those has the balance and complexity of Lagavulin.

Usually get the Bosses a Bottle of Booze for Christmas. $25 to $30...
One likes Spiced Rum (specifically Capt. Morgan private reserve...but any other suggestions would be welcome).. One likes Wine (red...even could use a suggestion on that note also...). One is a Scotch drinker. He likes a variety, but did mention that he'd had a bottle that was too strong (too much peat flavor, I think he mentioned)..any recommendations in that price range from the above? |

Some of the older (15+ years) Islays, such as Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Caol Ila, are pretty tasty. I've read that Port Ellen is splendid, but the distillery closed in the 80s and although bottle are still for sale, they'll easily exceed your $150-ish limit. Oban is a pretty darned tasty single malt and well within your price limit. I say if you don't want to try one of the aforementioned Islay malts, give Oban a shot.

The Mac or Oban is a nice safe bet. I really like Jura selections as it's off the beaten path and offers a lot of quality for the money.

Glen Moray 16 is about ~$45 or so. Highland Park 12 Is ~$40. If you can spring $60, Dalmore 12 and Macallan 12 are good. |
