Not to beat the dead horse...I know there are several scotch threads out there....but I am looking for recommendations for a really good smoky single malt scotch....my favorite is Lagavulin 16 (that I am sipping at this very moment), and I can't seem to buy anything else every time I go to the local ABC.  I want to try something different, but end up going with the old reliable because it's just that damn good.  Is there any recommendations out there from the scotch connoisseurs of GD, or have I found the pinnacle with Lagavulin????  Price is really not an object..but I would like to keep it under $150.00 pulease.

I'll just leave this here.

US bourbon now better than Scotch whiskey says expert

Mr. Murray, who wrote “Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible,” argues that Scotland’s decrease in quality whisky is due to the use of sulphur candles to sanitize some barrels that have been used to age sherry, giving it a “bitter finish

No complaints about Laphroaig. I prefer Arbeg Uigeadail, but you will not have any problems enjoying Laphroaig.

If you like smoke, it's gonna be hard to beat the Lagavulin.

Sure, you can always find MORE smoke (Laphroaig, Ardbeg), but you then risk overdoing it. Neither of those has the balance and complexity of Lagavulin.

Usually get the Bosses a Bottle of Booze for Christmas.   $25 to $30...

One likes Spiced Rum (specifically Capt. Morgan private reserve...but any other suggestions would be welcome)..
One likes Wine (red...even could use a suggestion on that note also...).

One is a Scotch drinker.     He likes a variety, but did mention that he'd had a bottle that was too strong (too much peat flavor, I think he mentioned)..any recommendations in that price range from the above?

Some of the older (15+ years) Islays, such as Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Caol Ila, are pretty tasty.  I've read that Port Ellen is splendid, but the distillery closed in the 80s and although bottle are still for sale, they'll easily exceed your $150-ish limit.  Oban is a pretty darned tasty single malt and well within your price limit.  I say if you don't want to try one of the aforementioned Islay malts, give Oban a shot.

Don't start off full cask, then.  Cut with water until it's drinkable to you and slowly lessen the dilution over time.

Glen Moray 16 is about ~$45 or so.
