From today's WSJ:
"To offset the $62 billion spending increase, the budget deal includes $85 billion in fee hikes and other deficit-reduction measures. That means the deal as a whole produces a net reduction in the deficit of $23 billion over 10 years." "The bill passed with a wide bipartisan margin, on a vote of 332-94. Voting for the measure were 169 Republicans and 163 Democrats, while 62 Republicans and 32 Democrats voted against." We have over $17 TRILLION in known federal debt, and are adding to it at the rate of at least $600 BILLION per year. But these clowns think that a $23 BILLION reduction over ten years is the adult and responsible thing to do. 
Tell me again that the Republicans are different than the Democrats.

While i agree with your premise, at least they're trying to start somewhere.
Look at it like the dems: they didn't try to ban all guns outright. They have slowly been chipping away at the second and it's working. You are correct though. The math is fucking ridiculous. Stop spending money you assholes. |

This is a place holder, designed to get us through the next 11 months. It's a political strategy.
The Dems wanted to force a shut down. Under the circumstances, it's acceptable. Now shut up and go to work or donate to one of the six senate campaigns we need to win in order to fix the problem. Tea party conservative? Fight it out in the primary== then throw your full support behind the candidate, even if you don't agree 100 percent. Or quit complaining. Because my children, like yours, will be paying for this stupidity-- including tantrums. Take over the Republican party if you want to fix this-- just don't let Harry Reid be in charge 12 months from now. |

I'm going to buy a 3 million dollar house and property tomorrow. I should be able to get the loan because I plan on cutting back my spending by $200 a month over the next 30 years.

like for the next 10 years they'll look back and say "nope, can't spend that because we agreed back in 2013 to cut it".
What changes are being made from such agreements from 2003-2012? None When's the last time we had a real budget, been running on continuing resolutions for last 4 or so? at least Notice how tax increased go into effect immediately and spending cuts don't happen until down the road |

The difference that concerns me is the media is firmly in the camp of the Democrats.
They relentlessly make the Republicans look like the bad guys, including the reports today. So while budget cuts won't change as much as needed with either party, other issues like gun rights will be easier for Democrats when they get more votes in upcoming elections, and the ability to change the Supreme court seats, so they can re-interpret the 2nd Amendment with a Liberal slant. It does seem ridiculous though- especially as we're putting 85 billion a month into the stockmarket- over 3 times the savings of this bill. |

Most of our so called conservatives, are no better than the socialists. When will the GOP wake up and quit wasting their vote, they have given the dems the last 2 election cycles. Tea Party, Constitutional Party, Libertarian Party folks, as the previous three are better than the 2 party's we have now. |

I did that for years, and got nothing for it except more debt and less freedom. I'm done with the political strategizing, too. We get so wrapped up in playing the game that we forget why we're fighting. It's not about who wins the next election or who controls Congress or who can appoint more judges. It's about saving the Constitution. Electing more Republicans isn't going to do it. Under the circumstances, more debt is not acceptable. Compromise is not acceptable. Unless, of course, you don't care if the Constitution is burned. |

Tell me again that the Republicans are different than the Democrats. When it comes to spending money, the overwhelming majority of Members of Congress are fervent believers that MORE IS BETTER regardless of party, as the vote totals show. They often disagree on who should receive the money. BTW: The entities which are slated to bear the burden of the cuts - which are scheduled to begin eight years from now - are already working to have the reductions eliminated. |

These are never cuts in spending. They are reductions in what they intended to raise the debt to.
So, they decide they will raise the debt 2 trillion & 23 billion over ten years and they reduce it to 2 trillion even and announce they have reduced deficit by 23 billion. The problem comes down to a few basic issues.
1. Lack of honor in all politicians. The two don't co-exist. If you have honor and respect as a person you simply aren't a politician. 2. Self service - politicians only care about their next term in office. They don't give a flying fuck what lies they have to tell, what lives they have to destroy as long as it serves them. 3. Power corrupts - lay down with dogs, you get fleas. The bottom line is human weakness. People are weak and will do what is easy vs. what is right. I'm so disgusted by all of them that it makes me sick.

Trillions of dollars worth of minerals. Instead of comping up with reason after reason why it won't work, try looking for solutions. |

We would have saved more with the sequester which was already in effect. Making Obama pay for his own vacations and golf rounds would probably have saved more over the next 3 years.
