I was thinking about getting my nephew an R/C truck for Christmas. I'd like to get him something better than a $50 toy that will get broken and forgotten the first time it crashes into something, but I'm not going to spend $300+ for one of the really nice trucks.

Is there anything worth buying in the middle?

I would look at what your local hobby shop sales. You will need parts when it gets broken and it will get broken. Around here Traxxas is all over and I think they are from your neck of the woods as well.

Duratraxx evader EXT. Ecx Ruckus, torment, circuit or boost.

Avoid Redcat (Redcrap), Nitro RCX and Exceed RC like the plague! It's cheap for a reason. JUNK.

The ecx looks cool hadn't seen those before I tried nitro but hated it shit was always broke so I sold it. Been wanting to try the battery stuff for awhile.

I just learned the first part of that the other day. I bought a losi mini 8ight. That thing is awesome. However, I also just spent $180 at horizon today doing some accessorizing.
