I won a storage unit this time last year.  It was huge.  It was also a huge pain in the ass to clean out, BUT, I found some interesting stuff.  Finally decided to share, as I know there are many here that appreciate WWII stuff.  Enjoy, and ask questions  although not sure how much I can actually answer as I really dont know that much about what I have. There are a ton of photos that I assume were taken off the dead.  I could take more pics of those, but there are lots.  And, no I won't smoke one of those olds cigs.  Also, the bullet shown I pic 8 has a clear primer strike, who knows, maybe a Gi was saved because of that.

All pics taken on iPotato

LOL at all the "Jap" labels. Imagine seeing those labels in a museum display case.

Who was the soldier that brought the stuff back?  Are there clues to his identity to provide some kind of provenance for the items?

Imagine how much of stuff like that has been thrown away over the years as the WWII vets die off and clueless family tosses it.

The 27th Infantry Division took Makin; that's as much as I know.

If you could say it was Sergeant John Doe that took these items and wrote the labels, it adds historic value to the collection.

Tons.

I have two authenticated Meiji-period yukatas I bought at a yard sale. The lady said her grandpa "brought those robes back from Japan". Dollar each.

I'll bet you can find a place in Japan that takes WWII photos and posts them up to find their owners.

If you don't collect that type of thing, I bet the WWII museum in New Orleans would display all of that.

What would you think if a modern day Japanese or German citizen found you and gave your family pictures of relatives during WWII? I can't imagine receiving a gift like that…priceless.

No doubt it would be difficult, but I bet it's easier than one might think...

If you said "Jap" in school today it would probably result in a 3 day suspension.

I would do that, but how would it be possible? They are all Japanese relatives of fallen soldiers. I wouldn't know where to start.

PBS History Detectives did just that on a show, they used their resources. Contact them?
