I dislike when folks learn I am former Military, they say something to the effect of..... "I almost joined BBBUUUTTT"
I hate that with a passion. I don't personally care if folks joined or not but don't give me some bullshit excuse to make yourself look good.

I wanted to join the military, but I just couldn't handle taking orders or having to go like, you know, fight a war for oil. That's why I work at a fast food place, you know, taking orders, from customers and my boss.

I am not shitting you, the asshole bleeding-heart psychologist thought I was "too smart" to join the military (because I was at the time enrolled in engineering university at age 17) and so she recommended against it - and the hiring board said that once the (civilian) psychologist has said no, then they were not allowed to hire me.
