I have been toying with idea of getting a AR pistol to keep for home defence. My house is a lot of doorways and hallways. It would be tough to clear and navigate with my full size AR. I like the thought of the mobility of a pistol with the round size and capacity of an AR. Add a light and maybe a fore grip. Anyone do this? Recommend brands?

Why, no, Officer. Why would we do that, sir?

Fore grip would be a problem without some paperwork.

Also.... prepare for ear bleeding.

Makes my ears bleed just thinking about it. Get a good 45ACP pistol.

Well, if you don't hit anything at least the muzzle blast will stun everyone in the house!

Use a Magpul AFG and your good to go.

Get a SIG arm brace and I think you've got a nice setup for not going the Form 1 SBR route.

Not without a suppressor,  which gets you back to the original length of a carbine.
I use a 8" 300 blackout with YHM titanium 762 around the house.

AR pistols suck.  Just get a stamp.

I keep one next to the bed.  No foregrip on mine, but an AFG would be legal.  Light and a micro dot with some backup sights and its good to go.

They simply aren't loud enough for home defense. You should buy one and install a mini-y-comp.

AR pistol is just a bad ideal all the way around.  About the only thing they are good for, is holding your short barrel until the NFA stamp arrives.

Angled foregrip is gtg

Put on a flaming pig and direct the hate at the intruder. It will fuck your night vision like a strobelight though.

My 10.5 is my new HD gun

I'd recommend something else, like a Sub2000 or a CX4... but ultimately, an AR pistol wouldn't be that bad if you stamped it and put a real stock on it.

The stamp will take close to a year to get, and with the brace you're not on an NFA list….

I had a 12.5 inch LMT MRP piston setup with the SIG brace and AFG.  She laid next to my bed side and was ready to take the head off of any urban youth that decided to rob my place.  Alas,  she was lost in a tragic boating accident.

Not if the overall length is greater than 26" - it isn't a pistol, just a "firearm" in the eyes of the BATF. This doable with an 10.5" - 11" barrel, IIRC.

But a 16" barrel carbine is only about 6" longer and can have a foregrip and real buttstock. And a 14.5" barrel with permanent flashhider is even shorter.

Anyone saying no own a pistol? The missing stock isn't even an issue at 20yds+.
In a 13x22 living room it would be no louder than a 12gauge and you don't have to pump to chamber the next 4 rounds.
You have 29 more at your fingertip.

Forced entry? Light em up.

Happened multiple times in afg.  Didn't happen a couple times and it hurt.  I'm already half deaf, I'll clinch my teeth and hope it kicks in if I have to shoot someone in my home.

I built one in 9mm for my wife for home defense.  Attached a light, flaming pig, and a T-1.  I set up a course of fire for her to clear with her .380 handgun (which she does practice with) and the AR pistol, which she had never touched.  The AR took her half the time with half a dozen fewer misses.  My only concern is reliability, but no FTF or FTE so far.

if your pistol is over 26" OAL, you can have a fore grip...that usually only happens with 11.5" barrels..

I don't get the pistol hate but if you get a stamp and throw a stock its the best thing since sliced bread.

I just built this this weekend and the brace is more solid and less wobbly than a standard gi stock once I get the rounds through it to prove its reliable you better believe this is gonna be my goto hd gun. Plus we camp in bordering states occasionally and I can take it along with out the headache of the stamp issue win win in my book

I recently got a Keltec PLR-16 and toyed with the HD idea.
Then I shot it at an indoor range.

I'll stick with my double barrel shotgun for now.

An AR SBR is more useful, faster, better, and better.  It's so much better I had to say it twice.

THAT is what that little shot timer proves.  Don't be fatuous, Jeffrey.

Dunno, but that'd be an interesting comparison to run.

I don't have one of the braces, nor do I know anyone with one, so I can't run it.  A good test, though.

Problem is, you're almost all the way to the stamp cost at that point.  Granted, the wait is killer.

OP, I hope you have a suppressor, and if you don't you should just practice saying "WHUT? " now.

I have a 9 inch 300 BLK pistol for a HD gun.

It's loaded with 110 Barnes black tips.

Eotech, AFG and a light.

I have shot it indoors and it's no louder than my 45 or 40.

If I lived in a free state, it would be a SBR.
