You must be a citizen to be an officer. Unless you come from Puerto Rico, Guam, Micronesia, and a couple of other obscure American protectorates.
Legal aliens can enlist, I had a lot of great soldiers who were mexican citizens, a guatamalan, an englishman, and a few others. A great way to get citizenship is to enlist. |

No green card, no enlist. Even legal aliens.

Additionally, if you aren't a citizen, you will be limited from certain job specialties in which a security clearance is required.

Every 6 months someone from Bat Hqt would come by and tell my platoon sgt I could not be in my platoon because I did not have (and could not get) a security clearance.My Sgt would say to me "don't worry about it",and nothing would happen.Every 6 months,the routine would be repeated...![:)] |

My last expereince as a Master Recruiter for the Army two years ago was, Have an INS 555 your in! Have had several unknowing young hispanics try to enlist in High School only to find out that Mom and Dad sneaked across the border illegally and never told junior! Bummer for them.
