This is the concept that society should be as open and accessible to as many people as possible.

That's because they are round.

Seriously though, what is so hard to grasp?  Door is closed.  Door stays closed until door knob is turned, at which point door is free to open until door is closed once again.  It beats kicking down a door every time you need to drop a deuce but don't have time to remove the hinges.

Cool, I can smuggle black market antique doorknobs up into Canada.

I bet congress is already drafting legislation to follow suit.  Can't let people choose doorknobs just like you can't let people choose their own light bulbs or toilets.

How are people supposed to put those plastic childproof sleeves over a door level?  Is the government going to be held responsible for children getting into places they shouldn't now?  Maybe they let themselves outside or drink some cleaner because of it.  The government says they are forcing everyone to make their property open to everyone, so they should be held accountable for any accidents or deaths caused by it.

You know you're in trouble when a government takes the time, money and manpower to legislate doorknobs.

Some politicians are just plain fucking stupid.

Wait until Kalifornia gets a hold of this.

Why, yes, that IS how most of the retarded regulations happen.

Those who "can", do.  Those who "can't", go to work for the Government and make rules hindering those who "can".

Welcome to A.D.A. enforcement. That type of regulation is already here, the idea that all new construction should be handicap accessible. No steps on homes just ramps, lever doorknobs and faucets, and 3' interior doorways so that a handicapped person can just buy any home without shouldering the cost of those upgrades themselves.

.  Allen Joslyn, president of the Antique Door Knob Collectors of America, a nonprofit devoted to studying and preserving ornamental doorknobs, wonders if Vancouver went too far in implementing its newfound ban.

Then that person is free to spend their own money installing door hardware that suits their needs.

I actually had lever doors all over my house and went and changed them all to knobs around the time my kid started standing and walking around a bit on his own. He still has difficulty with knobs but can open a lever handle door like nobody's business.

This is a *stupid* prohibition/regulation.

Ah, Vancouver. As I recall, technically that city requires you to have a construction permit  to change a light bulb.

Seeing as how they are only talking about permits for new construction, I'm not sure this would be an issue.

I guess they'll have to go after keys and traditional locks, next.
