Its a paper for school, he chose the artist based on his favorite song " You never even called me by my name".
I am VERY familiar with Mr. Coe and his songs and if the lad was older I think we could have some fun with this but at his age I'm not sure how far I want to open this door. Since GD is a vast expanse of knowledge, what do you guys and gals know about him that is suitable for a school project? Mainly life accomplishment type things, wiki has been perused but there isn't a lot there that is not known. Knowing what Mr. Coe has written/performed lets keep this clean and not derailed into a lock. |

How old is your kid?
The best piece of advice I can give is to let him do his own work. |
Please come to Boston. Take this job and shove it. I hear he has a cool spider tatoo.
The only way to make his personal history appropriate for a school paper is to ignore a significant portion of his life and art or to gloss it over it in a way that is intellectually dishonest. In my opinion. You could present it as objectively as possible but, if you're honest about him, you're really running a risk of twisting a set of panties or two.
I think a little education might save him some greif
15 is not too young |
I kicked in his dressing room door one time to rescue a drunken girlfriend from his clutches. Come to find out he was a pretty cool guy and the band was alright to. I let him keep the drunken girlfriend.
I think that mine field is too densely laid.
I'd try and steer him to another topic, OP. |
My daughter is doing the same kind of project at school.
She picked John Lennon which surprised me she even new who he was. David allen Coe i would had a hard time with her doing a report on him, espically with some of his songs. |
I know every performance I've seen in the last several years sucked.
I used to really enjoy his concerts but between him trying to rap and hard rock and getting pissed off at every little thing I won't waste another dollar to see him play agian. |

I know he was either homeless or chose to live in a van/bus outside the Opry for a while, and some of the stints in prison etc. His first choice was his favorite band, The LACs (Loud Ass Crackas) that got me an invitation to the school to discuss what his home environment was like. He's an honor student in AP classes, he's just country as hell. |
David Allen Coe did not write that song.
It was penned by Steve Goodman and John Prine, and both of those guys are far "cleaner" than Coe is. |
David was a visionary. He was singing about "Fuckin in the butt" back when guys were fantasizing about nip slips.
Tell him not to waste his ink writing about that racist piece of shit. DAC needs two things: a bath and some class.
He won't be able to tell everything about Coe in a school environment without being escorted off campus hence a paper not worth presenting. Choose someone else. Hell, a few of his songs can't even be played here without violating the CoC.
How do you explain the 70's, outlaw country and David Allen Coe to the youtube generation?
Daunting. Could be a useful object lesson in biting off more than you can chew. |
It could be worse... at least he's not doing a paper on G.G. Allin.
I had heard most of his more... colorful.... songs by 15. I second the "let the bird out of the nest" motion. You kid isn't as innocent as you might want to think.
Does it have to be a biography? Just examining the lyrics and references in that one song might be an interesting paper. |

Worked in service department once where he brought his car in for service. He slept in the back seat while his vehicle was being worked on?
Most of the time they didn't like customers in the shop due to "insurance regulations". This guy is asleep while impacts and air ratchets are buzzing away |
If that Ain't Country, you little hair-lipped poke.
It's a damn good joke. |

Besides, he is a 15 year old boy -- How sheltered is he is he know who Mr Coe is already?! |

Have him choose a different artist. There are 87,000 good ones who aren't vulgar hacks.

"Cum stains on the pillow, where she used to lay her head."
"Ain't nothing quite as worthles, as a......................" |
Shit...Coe wrote the paper for him...just use "Ohio Boy"

Besides, he is a 15 year old boy -- How sheltered is he is he know who Mr Coe is already?! Well the problem is he is a smart ass as well... He was tasked with presenting an anti-drug themed "skit" to the class, he edited a skit off of Chappelle Show about Tyron Biggums and the 5'oclock free crack give away. I was called on the carpet for that one as well, and I laughed. Out. Loud. in front of the Principal. |

Well I don't want to be that guy but y'all should make sure you at least spell his name correctly.

The paper is due Monday, he didn't tell us about it until this morning and I've been wondering where in the world I could "clean" info for him. |
If he wrote the paper as a criticism of Coe's racism and substance abusing and womanizing lifestyle I bet the teacher would love it.

Yeah he does but he spends most of his time outside hunting, deer (rifle) season opens here Saturday and I'm going to ask some baited questions about what he knows and how much he knows...Although I'm sure its more than we are aware of. |
