People just wanna be God...

These assclowns cannot even make a decent replacement for blood.

It will go nowhere and be a useless waste of funds.

OT:

And I'll bet this single-cell germ will have more rights and protection than this:

Scientists in Rockville are to announce this morning that they plan to create a new form of life in a laboratory dish.....

First off they cannot "create" anything. The word create means to make somthing from "nothing" humans have the ability to make many things and to reproduce what has already been created but it is impossible for any human to "create" anything.

You may be right about that...

Uh huh.... Designed to die if it escapes, will be made to be harmless, nothing could possibly go wrong yaada yadda.....

Anybody ever listen to Ian Malcom in Jurrasic Park?
Good thing I got that extra bio-chem suit in my closet.

Nifty.

Now if they would get cracking on stem cell research, we mihgt be able to accomplish lots.

Nothing that new here.  Just more genetic engineering.  It won't be dangerous, a dangerous microbe would a lot tougher to make.

I hope this all results in a reanimation biowar weapon, with similar effects of the 1968 incident.

Are you sure this is not a project by the Democratic National Committee to build/grow leadership for their party?  I think it stands at least as good of a chance as the current looser/crybabies.

Sounds pretty cool to me.I hope they continue with the project and don't listen to the empty-headed hand-wavers.

so if this thing escapes and doesn't die what is the best caliber weapon to use against a Genetically mutated Man made critter?

The same thing was once said about anti biotics.

only man can stand in the way of progress.

My great grandma, before she died said "cars are eeeevil!!" and I never did see her in a car, I guess it just goes to show if you believe it- it is true.

That was one of my favorite movies for a while.
It made a big impression on me when I was young
in the 70's when I first saw it.

If private funds are used then more power to them.  I do find it interesting that although this is the year 2002 we still cannot duplicate the conditions that supposedly produced life spontaniously from a swamp half a billion years ago.  I suspect the new lifeform they create will be built from pieces of a preexisting lifeform with bits either removed or added.  Call me the day they fire up a cell from scratch.  THAT will be news.  Planerench out. P.S. follow the money.
