So I have been working on my wolf for quite some time. Its finally clean and doesn't smell, much.

I went low and slow, picking most of the meat by hand and letting bacteria and time take care of the rest, and this is what I have.

I have heard hair bleach will help whiten the bone. What do you use? Toothpaste? Some special secret concoction?

My other question is the DNR took a huge chunk out of his head to get a tooth, should I leave it? Is there a way to fill it in or make it look a bit presentable?

And last of all, how do I clean out the interior of the teeth? Some where open and I was able to wash them out with water, but others are filled with water and rotted pulp. Can I drill below the gum line and clean it? Or just leave it alone?

the tooth on the left is darkens and full of water and rotted pulp:

And just for the sake of posting it, my young, 55# male, the first day of the first legal season of Wolf Trapping in MN in decades:

After a round of V40:

Lets do that again.....

All done, and glued the mandible and nasal bones into place:

Just the teeth left:

And done!

I'm thinking about Getting a natural cut board to mount him to, but I'm not sure what I want yet.

Try soaking it in Biz detergent and water for about a week.  Bleach is too strong and it will wind up degrading quicker if you use it.

Cool nice wolf
In Arizona for skulls we find an ant mound and lots of sunlight

I think a 4/1 ratio of water and perixide will work if you soak it a couple days. Pull it out every day to  check it. It will eat away at skull if left in too long

Here's your answer.

Soak the skull in water using a small amount of hydrogen peroxide. Do
not use chlorine bleach
, because this can damage bone and teeth.

I use 1 to4 ratio of peroxide and water in a bucket
ETA: Beat

I've used hydrogen peroxide on deer and javelin skulls .

Put skull in shallow pan, fill with peroxide and cover with cotton balls.

Cotton will wick up liquid and bleach skull without softening it.

May take a few days.

Nice woof, by the way!

I started drying it and it lightened up a lot.

Here's half the mandible

I'm thinking the discoloration was just some fluid that was still in the bone.

The teeth are still an issue though.

That looks amazing!

What is the V40?

Man I wanted to be drawn so bad.

Question, they let you keep the pelt right? They just want the carcass?

They just wanted a tooth, and a chunk if meat. The females get a reproductive sample too. I gave the pelt to my trapping buddy, he didn't get one though we went out together. My trap but it was as much his wolf as it was mine.

V40 is 40% peroxide hair crap girls use. Idk what for, all I know is you have to be crazy to use it. I got some on my hands and it got crusty fast.

You should grow your collection until it's the size of the one at the LaBrea Tar pits.

If I could kill that many wolves without ending up in Federl PMITA prison I would.
