Colonial, McMansion, Log, etc.

Mine, if I could afford it , would be Mid-Century Contemporary but with todays technology.

I really dig the log cabin style.

If I could, I'd live way out in the mountains in big old log cabin style home.

I've always been fascinated by the thought of grabbing up some desolate place with a lot of history and restoring it.

Or of repurposing an old church or something into a home.

But I'm cheap, have no natural artistic/design/handyman talent, and I'm lazy.

So.....

There is a company that will build you a castle-like house. Saw it on the interwebs.....

I always wanted a big center hall colonial with a nice cellar and big dining room. Something about it screams old money.

Yeah....Was it Frank Loyd Wright that pioneered that style?

As you get older and your knees, ankles, or hips begin to fail, you will greatly appreciate a single story ranch style house.

Almost all except for the ranch style and McMansions.  Gothic, Victorian, Arts and Crafts, Mission, Prairie, Modern, Country, Cape Cod, etc.

Yeah....A lot of the McMansions built here have 2 stories with the Master Suite downstairs.

Log cabin if it is full scribe construction with cedar shake roof.

Otherwise I like a lot of old farmhouses that are full two story with a nice big porch out front.

Sorta kinda. Styled after in a very loose sense. Call it a center hall colonial revival. It has silly eyebrow shutters that look ridiculous. A shutter should look as if when closed, it covers half the window. If not, don't bother.

Depends on the area.

I like Craftsman style, Log cabin style is nice too, and for the Southwest or desert areas I like the Mexican style walled courtyards, solid adobe, terrazo floors, vigas, etc.

I'm a big fan of a ranch on a basement.  A bonus room with a full bath over the garage is nice, but not necessary.  As far as style goes I tend toward craftsman or good old 4-sided brick

Growing up in Utah, everybody had a basement.  And I distinctly remember them always being nice and cool in the summer even if it was hot outside.

Makes me wonder why you don't see houses in CA with basements.  With as hot as it is, wouldn't it be really energy efficient to have a basement in the summers?

Small single story about 900 sqft square log cabin. Very efficient. Tons of room.

We sleep 6 men in one my buddies got on his ranch.

Course most womenz won't let that shit fly so we live in monstrosities and pay out the nose.

So very much this.

I'd like a modern ranch style, down in the Fredricksburg area.  Something like this:

I've always been partial to the California "Dingbat" style three story condo-over-garage.

I'd like to own a whole Dingbat two story, converted to be one large condo with a glass lookout front, but add some Moderne style features. Make it a pop art playboy flat with enough garage space for a different car every day of the week.

I grew up in a Georgian style home with sash windows and 10' ceilings. Like Montpellier VA. It was prety cool. Big yard and an orchard. Still my favorite even though I cant afford it.
