[ARCHIVED THREAD] - I just got my new house! ::happy dance::

Yep! Going over to pick up the key in a few minutes. I found a 1,980 sq ft stone ranch on 3.1 acres only two miles from my momma's house and about 6 miles from my work.

It's in a growing area and I got it for $17,000 under appraisal! Good thing, too, because I'm going to have to drop around $11,000 to have the house hooked up to sewer. ::wry grin::

Horses are allowed. The neighborhood is incredibly quiet. And I have a 1,200 sq ft basement just begging for a pool table and a Muay Thai heavy bag. [:D]

Things I love about older houses.... the quality touches.... cedar lined closets, built in solid cherry wood hutch in the dining room, stone fireplace. I'm so excited!!

Can't wait to lift the carpets and see what shape the hardwood floors are in.

Good luck with your new house. It sounds nice. you may want to rethink pulling up the carpeting. I did it in my old house and refinished the floors in the living room and dining room. I wish I would have just re carpeted. Especially if you have pets, carpet is warmer, quieter, and easier to take care of....

Congrats MM,
I remember my first house and it doesn't sound anywhere as nice as the one you are describing (assuming this is your first house/home).
That big stone fireplace makes me jealous.....
I just finished building my 3'rd house and it still doesn't sound as good as yours!!!

I always wanted a basement.... tried to get one in my new house, but they couldn't do it here.

Congrats MM! I share your excitement because my fiancee and I will be closing on our "new" house here in Rhinebeck on Nov 29th. It's a three bedroom ranch on 9.7 acres of woods that has good potential for updating and expansion.

It is also a great deal because we are buying the house at $50K below fair market value. Since 9-11, the real estate market here in Dutchess county has been going up 2% a month so it will also be a good investment.

We already have a big "to do" list started and watch HGTV regularly!

Hey Sara,
Glad to hear you got a new place. I bet your glad to have your own space again, plus you can bring the nags home. Congrats and best of luck to you in your new place. I'm jealous of your basement, thats one of the things I hate about Hampton roads. Damn near impossible to have a good "bunker" without a basement. Hope the hardwood floors look decent, if not, well...the critters don't care if you don't.

I just bought a house earlier this year and I know how excited you are. It's nice to have a place that is all yours. I say go for the hardwood floors, I absolutely love mine.

I'm taking before and after pictures... when I get my computer set up at home I'll put some up.

As for the hardwood floors... I love hardwood floors but will have some area rugs and I think the bedrooms will be carpeted.

The party should be the weekend of Knob Creek's spring shoot, right? [;D]

Oh... and the square footage is BEFORE adding in the 1300 sq footage of basement. [:D]
