The FBI, in an effort to nurture its relationship with the media, held its FBI Range Day. Along with the reporters, former agents and graduates of the FBI Citizen Academy got the chance to learn, and play, at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office training facility.
Agents performed a SWAT exercise in which they "rescued" a hostage amid live fire. It was a close-quarter battle, something FBI agents see a lot. "That's when we're in an environment against an armed bad guy and we play to win,'' Schwein said. "We play to win every time."
Reporters and other guests took turns firing guns including the M4, MP5, Thompson SMG, Glock 22, 1911 pistol, Smith and Wesson .357 and a 12-gauge Remington 870, all standard issue FBI weapons. That part came with a stern warning.
"We're having a little bit of fun on the range, but once you step up to the line, it's serious business,'' Schwein said.
