When is shooting on a range that doesn't shoot back not fun?

If you are looking to get a Garand, just get one on the market.
CMP stocks of good rifles are drying up fast or unavailable. The shoots are kinda fun, but not really worth the money unless you really like to compete in shooting events. |

The closest range to me has a Garand match once a month, and the cost is 5 bucks.
You can't even rent range time for 5 bucks. |

I have bought stuff from the CMP and have never been to a CMP match. Have the rules changed recently?

Where are you in CO? There are several clubs Colorado Rifle Club, Aurora gun club etc within close proximity to Denver that hold multiple CMP shoots every year. I believe you just need to be a member of a CMP affiliated club and not actually shoot.

The one at my F&G club really annoyed me last time I went. We were being super polite -- set up all the way on the other side, and weren't shooting during their heats. On the other hand, they kept making the range cold without as much as a heads up for us to make our weapons safe (just mashing the button), shooting while the range was cold, etc. I obviously know that isn't indicative of CMP matches as a whole, or even the whole group of guys that do it at my range, but it certainly turned me off from signing up to try it.
