LOL, yes I saw the beowolfX threads.

But when set up for coyote and calling onto a target area with a decoy, it has been easy peasy to use a binocular mount on a tripod and just strap the AR in place.  Get a comfy seat and start calling.

Anyone else do this?  Plus when I let kids hunt it takes some of the difficulty out of holding an ar for so long.....

What camera gear have you adapted to support your rifle?

I made a simple brace that screws onto the normal consumer tripods. It was a 4"L x 6"W x 4"H 6061-T6 aluminum U channel, with rubber padding adhered inside. Had the aluminum powder-coated black. Drilled a single 1/4"-20 tapped hole in the center so it screws directly to the QR on the tripod.

Works great for a mobile sitting to standing shooting rest.

I would actually like to do that in my deer stand. It's a bitch when you fall asleep and forget to take your rifle out of your lap. Lol...

They've been selling shooting sticks, tripods and other assorted rifle holding aids in the hunting catalogs for years.

I tapped a carry handle with a 1/4"-20 iirc hole, screwed that to a tripod where the camera goes, then used the carry handle to attach to the rail.

This works well for lighter rifles, You need a bigger tripod or it will fall over or you have to undo the elevation and lay the stock on the ground.

ETA I use it mainly for the kids and AR22s. They can hold them up very well and its easy to adjust for height as they switch out-plus its good control without hands on supervision

They make tri-pods.

Larue makes the mounts.

You wouldn't really have to adapt the tripod at all. Just install a 1/4x20 threaded insert into the gun at an appropriate location.

How do you shoot coyotes that come in at your 3, 6 and 9?

I use sticks now.  Don't know why it would be that much different.  I would keep the bipod on though.

I use mainly use sticks for predator hunting, but this helps with longer shots.  It does rotate as well.

The US Marine corps does.

They use both the HOG saddle:

And the PRS saddle

The Tripods themselves are usually Slik or Manfrotto with ball heads.

They have been in heavy use since snipers started operating more in built up areas as it gives them the ability to set up inside buildings and make very quick, easy to move shooting positions.
